About The Position

This position serves as the Security Assistant for Police Service, Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare System with a primary purpose to monitor physical security equipment and systems such as computers and multiple software systems to receiving and evaluating calls, dispatching and monitoring police, and record keeping and support services. If you receive an invitation, you will be required to attend in person on: Date: Saturday, January 10, 2026 Time: TBD - By Appointment Location of Hiring Event: Greater Los Angeles VA Hospital (Address and map of hiring fair location will be provided to candidates who have met minimum qualifications for invitation)You will be notified of your qualifications and if determined to be minimally qualified, you will receive an invitation for interview and MUST RSVP. Applicants should plan for a long day if selected, as there are several pre-employment stations to clear. Responsibilities

  • Receiving and Evaluating Calls
  • Answer 911 calls: Receive incoming calls to determine the nature and urgency of the situation.
  • Gather information: Collect essential details from callers, such as location, the type of incident, and any potential hazards.
  • Prioritize responses: Determine the correct priority and appropriate type of response needed for each call.
  • Handle non-emergency requests: Provide information or referrals for non-emergency situations.
  • Dispatching and Monitoring
  • Dispatch units: Use radio systems and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) to send police officers and other emergency services to the scene.
  • Monitor officer status: Track the location of on-duty officers and keep their status updated in the system.
  • Relay critical information: Provide officers in the field with updates, important details, and necessary support during their response.
  • Coordinate with other agencies: Collaborate with other emergency services, such as fire and medical personnel, when required.
  • Record Keeping and Support
  • Maintain records: Log all calls, incidents, and responses in a written or automated format.
  • Use databases: Access and retrieve information from databases, including criminal records, vehicle information, and warrants.
  • Provide information: Answer inquiries from the public and other law enforcement agencies.
  • Monitor surveillance: In some cases, monitor security cameras and other surveillance equipment.
