About The Position

Responsible for dishwashing and other general housekeeping tasks. Maintains the Culinary Department in a sanitary, safe, and clean condition that meets hospital, Health Department and Joint Commission standards. This position is responsible for collecting soiled dishes, trays, service ware, and cookware from assigned areas throughout the hospital, including upper floors, at scheduled times throughout the day. This role ensures proper washing, sanitizing, air-drying, and storage in accordance with sanitation standards. Duties include operating dish machines and hand-washing items as required. This is a fast-paced, physically demanding position that requires frequent walking, pushing and pulling carts weighing up to 50 pounds, and covering long distances throughout the shift. Requirements

  • Food Handler Permit or ServSafe certification is required by first day of work
  • One or more year of experience maintaining cleanly areas with chemicals preferred
  • Demonstrates ability to read color coded labels and chemicals as well as following written and verbal directions
  • Demonstrate ability to operate housekeeping equipment and dish machine (preferred)
  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
  • Occasional interaction with customers that requires employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment within Intermountain Health facility. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment.
  • Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Remain standing and walking for long periods of time to perform work.
  • Tolerate extremes in temperature such as performing work around dish machines and tolerate exposure to cleaning chemicals.

Responsibilities

  • Collects carts of patient trays and dishes from hospital floors per daily schedule
  • Collects cookware and dishes from within department as necessary
  • Cleans and sanitizes cookware, dishes, patient trays, and distributes them appropriately
  • Cleans and disinfects assigned department areas including dining areas using department cleaning procedures
  • Uses cleaning chemicals properly according to Joint Commission and OSHA standards
  • Understands procedures and properly disposes of infectious waste and trash
  • Operates and maintains assigned equipment (e.g. commercial dishwasher) according to established procedures
