American Express Company seeks Directors, Risk Management to manage and mentor a team of managers, empowering them to design, implement, and optimize data-driven strategies, tools, and frameworks that drive measurable improvements in collections performance. Provide strategic leadership in the development and execution of credit risk strategies to strengthen collection effectiveness while overseeing operational integrity and regulatory compliance. Set direction for risk segmentation strategy, guiding the identification of key risk cohorts to support the formulation and evolution of credit policies and procedures governing collections activities. Lead the end-to-end development and enhancement of collections capabilities and infrastructure, championing innovation in tools, processes, and decisioning logic to support evolving strategy needs. Oversee enterprise-level collections workstreams, ensuring the execution of high-impact initiatives aimed at improving recovery rates, reducing net credit losses, and mitigating operational risk across portfolios. Direct the identification, assessment, and remediation of regulatory risk within the collections risk management framework, ensuring full compliance with internal controls and external regulatory expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field
  • 3 years of credit risk management and analytics experience.
  • 3 years of experience with each of the following: working in cross-functional and cross-border teams within consumer credit risk management; developing customer management policies and capabilities for collections tools, such as financial relief programs, recovery tools with reinstatement, settlements, and collection processes, including cancellation strategy and specialty collections; evaluating and resolving structural gaps in credit policy design, operational processes, and risk governance, driving continuous improvement across the collections lifecycle; analyzing credit risk data from internal data sources, external bureau data, and systems and data management processes; utilizing MS Office tools to review, summarize, and present findings to senior leadership; maintaining and optimizing collection processes as well as the systems supporting collection capabilities; and Hive, SAS, SQL, BigQuery, and Teradata.
