About The Position

The individual selected for this position will oversee the educational services and facilities of Great Basin College (GBC) including the daily operations of the Winnemucca center and other rural satellite locations. Responsibilities include supervising non-academic faculty employees at GBC centers in the region and providing oversight of the Prison Education program at Lovelock. This position is based in Winnemucca, Nevada, and requires occasional travel to the Elko campus and other locations for meetings. Travel is typically by car over long distances (hundreds of miles), with or without reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The position reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Evidence of previous organizational and administrative experience, preferably in an educational setting, is required.
  • Communication skills are essential to the position.
  • General computer skills are required to perform the duties of this position successfully.
  • Familiarity with distance education delivery technologies is required.
  • Willingness to travel frequently throughout the service area is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a community college setting will be an asset to the applicant.
  • Familiarity with advising college level students is preferred.
  • Familiarity with an integrated student information system is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing course schedules for fall, spring, and summer terms
  • Assist in the recruitment of full and part-time faculty
  • Advise students
  • Market course offerings
  • Participate in faculty and staff development
  • Manage the center budget
  • Supervise staff
  • Develop contract trainings in conjunction with program deans
  • Promote economic development
  • Take the College’s programs and services out to the communities of Winnemucca and surrounding areas
  • Oversee and supervise daily operations of the Winnemucca Center and satellite centers in the surrounding areas.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Prison Education Program and serve as primary liaison with NDOC and Lovelock Correctional Center (LCC).
  • Oversee semester planning at LCC, enrollment timelines, and delivery logistics which includes coordination across Academic Affairs, Financial Aid, Bookstore, and Facilities.
  • Approve operational processes for materials distribution and attendance tracking.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional, correctional, and FERPA requirements and identify and mitigate operational or compliance risks at LCC.
  • Promote course offerings, college programs and services within the communities of the counties.
  • Recruit part-time faculty.
  • Select, train, and supervise the staff for the centers in Winnemucca and surrounding areas.
  • Participate in faculty and staff development activities for the Winnemucca and satellite centers in the area.
  • Plan and manage the Winnemucca budget in conjunction with the Vice President of Finance and Operations.
  • Oversee janitorial services and buildings and grounds maintenance and repair.
  • Plan and direct student support services, registration, including coordination of financial aid, academic advisement, and SGA activities for Winnemucca and the satellite centers in the area.
  • Promote and coordinate joint initiatives with the local school districts.
  • Work with the Director of Continuing Education to explore for and develop opportunities in the area for community service offerings and other means of community outreach and continuing education.
  • Promote business partnerships and contract training.
  • Participation on economic development committees within the area is expected.
  • Collaborate with the GBC Foundation to develop Winnemucca and surrounding area resources as requested.
  • Participate in college meetings to facilitate inter-campus and inter-departmental communications.
  • Participate in faculty senate and other college committees as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate.
