About The Position

The job of Director of Transportation & Logistics was established for the purpose/s of supporting the educational program with specific responsibilities for directing transportation programs and services; providing information and serving as a resource to others; achieving defined objectives by planning, evaluating, developing, implementing and maintaining services in compliance with established guidelines; and serving as a member of the leadership team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from a four year accredited college or university
  • Ten years of upper management experience
  • Three years management experience in Pupil Transportation
  • Three years' experience in Collective Bargaining
  • Experience in managing a fleet of school buses of at least fifty (50)
  • Commercial Driver's License with endorsement for Passenger Vehicles and School Bus Endorsement, Missouri School Bus Driver-Trainer Certification
  • Ability to identify problems and determine solutions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of computer programs and keyboard skills
  • Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position

Responsibilities

  • Maintains safety standards in compliance with state, federal and insurance regulations
  • Develops a program of preventive safety
  • Recruits, trains and supervises all transportation personnel. This includes recommendations on their employment, transfer, promotion and release
  • Evaluate Transportation Staff on an annual basis
  • Advises superintendent on road hazards when determining closing school due to inclement weather
  • Cooperates with school principals and others responsible for planning special school trips
  • Develops and administers a transportation program to meet all the requirements of the daily instructional program and extracurricular activities
  • Oversees the creation of bus routes and updates bus schedules for all schools in the district
  • Oversees maintenance of all district-owned equipment and develops plans for preventive maintenance
  • Attends appropriate committee and staff meetings
  • Prepares and administers the transportation budget
  • Develops recommendations for future equipment and personnel needs
  • Authorizes purchases in accordance with budgetary limitations and district rules and policies
  • Approves and forwards transportation requisitions and purchase orders to accounting department
  • Submits all reports required by state authorities
  • Oversees decisions regarding discipline problems occurring on school buses
  • Acts as liaison with parents for complaints and special requests.
  • Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills
  • Adheres to good safety practices
  • Adheres to all district rules, regulations and policies
  • Other duties as required or assigned
