About The Position

Director Transfer Center/Bed Placement The Director is accountable for the strategic oversight and operational management of patient bed placement, regional transfer center, and patient flow across the organization. This includes responsibility for ensuring appropriate, timely, and efficient assignment of beds in alignment with clinical needs, regulatory requirements, and organizational capacity. The Director collaborates with nursing leadership, medical staff, and hospital operations to optimize throughput and reduce delays. Leads the strategic management of inbound transportation for patient transfers, optimizing modality selection, vendor partnerships, and transport logistics to support patient safety, capacity management, and efficient throughput. The Director is responsible for developing performance standards, quality indicators, and escalation protocols related to bed utilization and capacity management. Provides leadership in resolving complex placement issues, capacity constraints, and interdepartmental conflicts that may impact patient access or safety. Ensures compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and internal standards governing patient placement and transfer activities. Monitors and ensures that the clinical staff teams provide excellent patient care. Executes strategic goals, objectives, into operations and conducts ongoing monitoring and learning to continuously improve. In collaboration with organizational leaders, develops and implements clinical processes that achieve quality and safety goals on all inpatient nursing units and are consistent with service line strategic plan. Integrates the Patient Care Services Division philosophy and Baystate Health values into all practices and programs. Evaluates unit leaders metrics (clinical, budgetary, patient experience) to determine if current standards are met. Works to ensure excellence in patient care and customer service through interactions with patients, families, customers, core staff and department managers. Ensures required yearly competencies and other safety checks of all staff. Attends appropriate management and educational forums. Responsible for the 24-hour, day-to-day operations of Patient Placement/Transfer Center department. Oversees and coordinates the successful transfer and/or admission of all patients across the health system within all BH hospitals. Demonstrates expert content knowledge in the use of Tele tracking including bed board and reporting functions. Maintains ongoing education and compliance of use of the tool for all appropriate staff across the health system. Identifying and understanding issues, problems and opportunities, comparing data from different sources to draw conclusions, using effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions; taking action that is consistent with available facts, constraints and probable consequences. Maintains a strategic vision in delivering high standards of communication and collaboration within all areas of service with both internal and external customers. Provides ongoing insight and support in professional growth and creativity to increase marketing and expansion of business with the tertiary and quaternary care needs of area service regions.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree Required
  • 3-5 years leadership experience in patient placement management
  • Registered Nurse - State of Massachusetts
