Director, Technical Revenue Accounting Location: US — Remote (fully remote across the US) Genesys is seeking a self-motivated Director, Technical Revenue Accounting to lead technical analyses, design and operationalize processes, and review complex deals to ensure compliance with ASC 606. This role leads how complex commercial arrangements are evaluated, structured, and translated into compliant and scalable revenue outcomes under ASC 606. As a key partner to Revenue Operations, Deal Desk, Sales, Legal, IT, and Strategic Finance, you will influence how deals are structured, how systems are configured, and how revenue is recognized across a growing SaaS business. You will operate at the center of technical accounting, deal enablement, and process design, with visibility into enterprise-wide initiatives and the opportunity to drive continuous improvement across systems, controls, and policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant accounting experience with hands-on SaaS/technology experience; prior Big 4 experience (7+ years) strongly preferred.
  • CPA required.
  • Recognized subject matter expertise in ASC 606 with practical experience applying the standard to complex SaaS, hybrid and enterprise arrangements; familiarity with related technical topics (SSP, contract modifications, material rights, variable consideration).

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience with SalesForce, Zoura/RevPro and Workday (or similar revenue recognition and ERP systems) and experience leading systems integrations / migrations.
  • Strong analytical, technical writing and presentation skills; ability to synthesize commercial facts into a defensible accounting conclusion and to present to senior finance and commercial leaders.
  • Demonstrated experience owning controls and audit processes (SOX experience preferred).
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with data tools (SQL, Power BI, Tableau or similar) preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, lead cross-functional projects, influence without direct authority, and coach team members.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate revenue accounting for current and contemplated contractual arrangements under ASC 606 and recommend defensible accounting positions for complex commercial arrangements (multi-element, usage-based, term/licensing mixes, implementation/Professional Services, etc.).
  • Provide thought leadership, strategy, and practical guidance on technical revenue recognition matters affecting SaaS offerings; act as a subject matter coach and trainer for team members and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Lead large contract and complex deal reviews, including validating appropriate allocation and accurate revenue recognition; provide real-time pre-sales and post-award accounting support to Sales / Deals Desk and Legal to ensure commercial structures are revenue-accounting compliant in consideration of revenue policies and system functionalities.
  • Communicate complex accounting guidance, system flows, and technical concepts to stakeholders across Revenue Operations, Sales, Legal, and Finance, ensuring clarity on business implications and outcomes.
  • Partner with Product, Commercial, Legal and Strategic Finance to evaluate and design new product and commercial models from a revenue recognition perspective, including system set-up review, SSP determinations and variable consideration frameworks.
  • Operate effectively and flexibly in fast-paced environments with multiple stakeholders and evolving priorities across deals, projects, and multiple timezones
  • Contribute to AI and automation initiatives that improve and scale revenue processes
  • Own continuous improvement of revenue close processes and controls (including SOX controls) to ensure timely and accurate revenue reporting.
  • Contribute accounting expertise to enterprise projects, product launches, system migrations, and initiatives that simplify or strengthen revenue processes and controls.
  • Maintain and enhance the Company’s revenue accounting policies, technical memos, and documentation repositories; produce technical accounting memos for significant or precedent-setting transactions.
  • Support preparation of revenue-related financial statement disclosures, MD&A and executive reporting.
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audits over revenue; prepare audit support packages, respond to auditor questions, and present technical positions to external advisors and to the Chief Accounting Officer.
  • Partner with IT and Revenue Operations to test, deploy and validate applications and interfaces that impact revenue recognition, and to ensure system configurations support ASC 606 outcomes.
  • Manage external consultants as needed for technical projects, system implementations or accounting research.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship and on-the-job training for technical revenue accounting and revenue operations staff; drive knowledge sharing and playbook development across the organization.
  • Participate in ad-hoc technical accounting projects and support compliance with other external statutory reporting requirements.
