You will receive 18 remote workdays per quarter to use at your discretion, subject to manager approval. For example, you may choose to work in the office 4 days per week and take one remote day weekly (typically 13 weeks per quarter), leaving 5 additional remote days to be used as needed. HarbourVest is seeking to recruit a Director within the Tax Compliance function with primary responsibility for management company tax compliance. This role will oversee key management company tax compliance processes, including income tax provisions and ASC 740 review, US federal/state and non-US filings, and global tax initiatives (including OECD Pillar Two, Country-by-country reporting, and transfer pricing). The role will serve as the primary point of accountability for tax compliance delivery quality, timeline management, and external advisor performance. It will also partner closely with Tax Compliance leadership as well as cross-functional colleagues (Corporate Finance, Tax Structuring, Legal, and others) to evaluate the business impact of global tax rules and implement effective processes to ensure compliance. Responsibilities in this role also involve oversight of U.S. tax reporting for a limited portfolio of the Fund's commingled funds and custom account offerings. The ideal candidate brings significant U.S. and global tax compliance experience, along with a strong understanding of tax considerations impacting private market funds, management companies, and their owners. This newly created position will report to the Vice President, Management Company Tax. The ideal candidate: Communicates clearly and credibly with senior leaders and external advisors. Operates effectively in a matrixed organization. partnering closely with Tax leadership and cross functional colleagues. Handles multiple complex workstreams in a fast‑paced environment with agility, prioritization, and initiative. Demonstrates intellectual curiosity and a continuous-improvement mentality, proactively finding opportunities to enhance processes and outcomes. Balances technical difficulty with sound commercial judgment, applying a practical lens to technical tax matters. Provides coaching and technical mentoring for colleagues, supporting their development and growth.

Requirements

  • Strong US GAAP and tax accounting knowledge across partnerships, LLCs, and corporations, including tax provision experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of tax structures, reporting requirements, and related tax technical issues (including complex partnership allocations) applicable to private equity funds and management companies.
  • Experience overseeing multi-jurisdictional tax compliance outsourced to external service providers.
  • Experience operating as a senior individual contributor or emerging people-lead, with demonstrated ability to own complex tax matters and influence cross functional outcomes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills and ability to quickly learn firm specific systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative, trusted-partner approach.
  • Excellent analytical skills, judgment, and attention to detail.
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience required
  • CPA or EA required, MST/MT strongly preferred
  • 10+ years of tax compliance experience, including both management company and private funds, and experience leading ASC 740 and tax provision processes.
  • Prior in-house experience at an asset manager or private equity firm, and/or with a top-tier public accounting firm.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee outsourced global tax compliance for HarbourVest’s management company entities, including US and non-US filings.
  • Lead income tax provision and ASC-740 processes, including review of calculations and financial statement disclosures.
  • Lead Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR) compliance and alignment with transfer pricing documentation.
  • Own the day-to-day OECD Pillar Two compliance process, including registrations and filings, and contribute to the review of regulatory developments.
  • Monitor US and international tax law developments and support the assessment of implications for the management company and its owners.
  • Provide technical leadership and support on complex tax challenges and manage external advisors.
  • Partner with Corporate Finance, Tax Structuring, and other teams to integrate tax considerations into business decisions.
  • Oversee outsourced annual tax reporting for assigned fund entities, ensuring timely and accurate tax filings and payments.
  • Partner with internal teams and external accounting firms to deliver high quality investor tax reporting, including Schedules K-1 and PFIC statements.
  • Support tax compliance aspects of new fund launches, in coordination with Tax Structuring and other team members.
