About The Position

The Director of Surgical Supply Chain sets the strategic and business direction for all Surgical areas, inclusive of Periop, Endo, Interventional Radiology and Labor and Delivery. Is responsible for the procurement, movement and inventory levels of these areas. As part of the leadership team at Mount Sinai Medical Center, ensures compliance with Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO) and other regulatory agencies' standards

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics and Materials Management or equivalent
  • 5-7 years' minimum experience in health care operational experience

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements procedures in order to provide safe and efficient material handling and delivery methods.
  • Leads and manages the activities of the materials organization in accordance with identified company goals to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of operations.
  • Manages leads and directs the supply chain function including maintaining Par Levels, Requisitioning of case specific supplies the appropriate inventory levels.
  • Assesses needs and ensures that programs objectives are met. Coordinates activities of program committees and/or other department heads to plan procedures and coordinate information.
  • Responsible for inventory levels, ensures complete on-time delivery to the customer, on-time delivery of parts from the supply base, and monitoring material usage. Changes or adjusts service levels according to needs and resources available.
  • Appraises business, material and labor trends and plans materials functions to assure continuing supply.
  • Develops reports with clinical department heads to understand surgical trends and volumes.
  • Organizes, directs and coordinates hospital policies and procedures on all matters relating to procurement, including searching of new material and suppliers consistent with acceptable quality and delivery at the lowest evaluated cost.
  • Works with all areas of Supply Chain to ensure that the Surgical Areas run as efficient as possible.
  • Interviews, recruits, and hires personnel in all areas of responsibility. Performs employee performance appraisals, disciplinary actions and terminates personnel as required.
  • Evaluates systems applications for limitations and possible enhancements related to inventory management, procurement and reporting. Makes recommendations or changes to improve and meet business needs.
  • Monitors performance of suppliers and service vendors and communicates problems or issues to management and staff as needed.
  • Analyzes and understands key market trends and issues impacting the Health System.
  • Ensures compliance with state regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO) and New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH)
  • Responsible to ensure the proper training of Supply Chain principles as well as systems being used for staff at on boarding and ongoing.
