About The Position

JOB DESCRIPTION: Directs the establishment of objectives, the development of long-range and strategic plans, the identification of strengths and weaknesses and business opportunities for the corporation or major business unit. Identifies internal and external strategic issues that could affect the growth and profitability of the business unit. (It should be understood that this is not intended to be a detailed nor comprehensive description of any individual employee's job content. Managers set the specific duties and responsibilities for each employee.) SCOPE: Directs the establishment of objectives, the development of long-range and strategic plans and the identification of strengths and weaknesses and business opportunities. May conduct special studies for top management in areas such as operational effectiveness, capacity utilization, operating cost containment, etc. May be responsible for the overall operation, resource allocation, or the integration of assigned functions with other organizational segments. May be responsible for merger/acquisition activity. Makes recommendations as to the impact on the corporation's or business unit's profitability. PROBLEM COMPLEXITY: Works on abstract problems across functional areas of business. Identifies and evaluates fundamental problems for major functional areas through assessment of intangible variables. IMPACT: Erroneous decisions will have a long-term effect on company or business unit success. LIAISON: Interacts internally and externally with executive-level management requiring negotiation of extremely difficult matters to influence policy making. FREEDOM TO ACT: LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT: Advises with respect to the activities of one or more functional areas, divisions, product groups, etc. through senior managers with overall responsibility for the direction of those assigned areas. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND ABILITY: Significant related experience and training in the areas of strategic planning. Must possess analytical, presentation, and problem-solving skills; the ability to gain internal support; to operate independently without supervision or feedback; and the ability to establish a solid working relationship with technical staff, managers, and peers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required - business, operations, supply-chain management or similar
  • 5+ years experience in strategic sourcing utilizing recognized best-in-class structured strategic sourcing processes and techniques
  • Experience leading strategic sourcing programs and project teams utilizing best-in-class, recognized program management techniques
  • Experience developing and implementing supplier management strategies in services and/ or subcontractor supply-base environment
  • Strong stakeholder management and senior leadership relationship management skills
  • Strong analytic skills
  • Strong strategic and conceptual thinking skills
  • Significant related experience and training in the areas of strategic planning.
  • Must possess analytical, presentation, and problem-solving skills; the ability to gain internal support; to operate independently without supervision or feedback; and the ability to establish a solid working relationship with technical staff, managers, and peers.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or similar post-graduate qualification in operations or supply-chain management
  • Experience in strategic sourcing project implementation with a recognized strategy and operations consulting firm or large company with recognized and established best-in-class strategic sourcing capability

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation and on-going management of Strategic Sourcing Program utilizing formal, best-practice program management and 7-step strategic sourcing practices. This includes reporting program status to Indirect and Direct Sourcing Councils comprised of senior executives of the company
  • Lead the development and implementation of spend and supplier analytics tools and practices, including the development and maintenance of data categorization taxonomies that best suit business
  • Lead the identification and proposal of strategic sourcing opportunities for Indirect and Direct spend. Engage Sourcing Councils, senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders in approving, staffing and implementing identified opportunities.
  • Lead the development and implementation of category strategies for key indirect and direct spend categories
  • Lead the development and implementation of supplier and subcontractor management strategies including identification of strategic capabilities, make vs. buy criteria, segmentation of strategic vs. non-strategic suppliers, strategic use of small business suppliers and supplier score-carding
  • Lead specific strategic sourcing projects utilizing 7-step strategic sourcing process, through negotiation and implementation of the contract
  • Lead team of sourcing analysts, including personal development, performance management and day to day supervision
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic sourcing and negotiation training for procurement organization
  • Deliver explicit direct and indirect spend savings year over year through formal savings measurement and sign-off process
