Reporting to the Chief Data & Engineering Officer the Director, Software Engineering will lead a team of software and quality engineers. This Director will also work closely with other global software development and architecture leaders to deliver products to market with quality and on time. Together with your product management partner, you will streamline the healthcare process to improve patients, healthcare providers, and payer’s experiences. The Director, Software Engineering directs and oversees the software engineering function in developing, releasing, and maintaining software applications according to business needs. They will establish procedures that produce high-quality software product and service. The Director oversees all aspects of Availity’s agile software development life cycle including the analysis, design, programming, debugging, quality assurance, and modification of computer programs. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences or a related field of study.
  • 8-10+ years of delivering software products, preferably for the healthcare industry.
  • 5-8+ years of experience in managing teams and building relationships with people at a variety of organizational levels.
  • Experience leading teams of 20+ members.
  • 5+ years of delivering enterprise product software hosted in a public cloud, preferably AWS.
  • Ability to launch and deliver multiple projects on time.
  • Experience designing complex software systems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external clients/vendors.
  • Experience driving and managing change.
  • Understanding of Java, .NET, HTML, XML, and databases.
  • Experience working cross-functionally and globally.
  • Extensive knowledge of the health care/payer/insurance industry specifically claims processing systems, provider office operations, and customer service processes in a health care company. is preferred; or SaaS experience.

  • Leading, managing, and growing multiple teams of product focused, full-stack software engineers.
  • Mentoring and guiding the professional and technical development of engineers on your team.
  • Working with product managers to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios - continuously improving software engineering practices.
  • Working within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a full-stack development tools and technologies.
  • Leading the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of your solutions.
  • Bringing a passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, and mentoring other members of the engineering community
  • Encouraging innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization.
  • Working across to improve the velocity of your and other teams
  • Leading efforts to deploy new and existing applications into AWS environments
  • Working closely with product manager and related teams to define product scope and deadlines using an agile, continuous planning process, as well as a quarterly synchronization process.
  • Managing project deadlines, assign responsibilities, and allocate resources.
  • Creating and managing team KPI’s, dashboards, and metrics for success.
  • Cultivating a productive, strong, and happy culture within the department
  • Providing updates, recommendations, and advocacy to leadership on behalf of the department
  • Identifying opportunities for new projects and processes, then plan, collaborate, and successfully implement.
  • Acting as the backstop on technical direction as needed
  • Taking responsibility for hiring new engineers as needed
  • Collaborating with Product, Design, Data, Operations, and Customer-facing teams to optimize technology and efficiency in product development, operations, and infrastructure.
  • Developing new initiatives and continuously streamline the engineering and software development processes
