About The Position

The Director of Revenue Cycle Billing provides strategic and operational leadership for billing, collections, and core revenue cycle functions. This role is responsible for optimizing end-to-end billing performance, ensuring regulatory and payer compliance, improving cash flow, and driving continuous process improvement across the revenue cycle. As a highly visible leader, the Director partners closely with executive leadership, finance, clinical teams, and operations to identify risks and opportunities, analyze performance trends, and implement scalable solutions that support organizational growth and financial sustainability.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated success leading billing or revenue cycle operations in a healthcare environment.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic plans, manage priorities, and drive measurable financial and operational improvements.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills with experience managing supervisors and/or large teams preferred.
  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple initiatives and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of medical coding standards, payer regulations, and reimbursement methodologies.
  • Strong customer service orientation and professional communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience with medical billing across multiple specialties preferred.
  • Experience with EMR/EHR and billing systems strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic oversight of billing, collections, accounts receivable, and related revenue cycle functions to ensure efficient, compliant, and high-performing operations.
  • Lead the evaluation, design, and implementation of revenue cycle policies, workflows, and standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct routine audits of billing, intake, coding, and revenue cycle processes to identify inefficiencies, compliance risks, and revenue leakage; implement corrective action plans.
  • Identify and pursue revenue optimization opportunities while proactively addressing missed or delayed revenue.
  • Own and monitor key revenue cycle performance indicators, including denial rates, days in A/R, net collection rate, charge lag, and cash collections.
  • Analyze trends affecting coding, charges, reimbursement, and payer performance; prepare and present actionable insights to leadership.
  • Prepare, review, and interpret weekly and monthly financial, accounts receivable, and operational reports.
  • Ensure accurate data collection, reporting integrity, and timely distribution of statistical and financial information.
  • Ensure compliance with all state, federal, payer, and regulatory requirements, including HIPAA guidelines.
  • Serve as the organizational subject matter expert for medical billing, coding guidelines, and third-party payer processes.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on insurance contract review, payer performance analysis, and reimbursement strategy.
  • Oversee quality assurance programs to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance across all billing activities.
  • Provide leadership, direction, coaching, and performance management to the billing and revenue cycle team.
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and collaborative department culture focused on excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, training, and professional development of revenue cycle staff.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and contribute to strategic planning initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with patients, families, physicians, nursing staff, finance, IT, and other departments to resolve issues impacting the revenue cycle.
  • Provide leadership input on system enhancements, workflow changes, and operational initiatives affecting revenue performance.
