The position is responsible for ensuring Pattern’s compliance with applicable energy regulations primarily related to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the Public Utility Commission of Texas, and Canadian provinces as well as the rules of the Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs), Independent System Operators (ISOs), and futures exchanges. In coordination with the Assistant General Counsel – Compliance and Operations, the position will be responsible for establishing Pattern’s regulatory compliance program and providing subject matter expertise and oversight related to transmission and generation/marketing requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • At least 10 years of direct experience in regulatory, compliance, or legal fields in the energy industry
  • Strong knowledge of FERC regulations and RTO/ISO market rules
  • Understanding of wholesale energy markets, transmission grid, and energy regulators
  • Ability to think strategically and influence the organization at all levels
  • Effective communication and critical thinking skills needed
  • Results-oriented

Nice To Haves

  • Prior leadership and people management experience preferred
  • Experience interacting with regulators and markets (RTO/ISOs)

Responsibilities

  • Establish and oversee regulatory compliance program, including establishing key policies/procedures and compliance training, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing subject matter expertise related to trading and transmission requirements
  • Participate as member in the Market Risk Committee and provide guidance on front office trading strategies, products and markets
  • Provide strategic leadership on compliance matters, including relevant reports, metrics and guidance to senior management
  • Manage and develop team and direct report(s), including potential recruitment to meet compliance resource needs
  • Assess and identify key compliance systems and oversee implementation
