Occ Summary Performs responsible administrative work in directing, planning, and organizing activities within Radiology Services. Work Performed Administers and coordinates the functions of Radiology Services including Diagnostic Radiology, Radiology Support Services, MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Vascular/Interventional, Ultrasound, Peripheral Vascular Imaging, Center for Women Mammography. Provides guidance and direction for managers, supervisors and team leads in carrying out their responsibilities to ensure an even flow of work assignments, personnel, and patients. Responsible for development, interpretation, dissemination and practice of departmental and corporate policies, procedures, regulations and information and all performance improvement planning. Ensures departmental policies and procedures are maintained and followed. Ensures department is in constant compliance with JCAHO, State and Federal regulatory agencies. Establishes, identifies, and ensures systems and standards that promote patient’s safety and safe practices for delivering patient care. Reviews department performance in relation to established goals, implements change to effect continual improvement in services provided, and ensures compliance with all internal and external standards as well as regulatory and legal requirements. Responsible for overall quality provided by established services and for following the highest standards. Develops quality improvement program and competency assessment initiatives. Reviews departmental operation for effectiveness with the use of computer printouts for labor distribution, revenue versus disbursements, productivity analysis and by departmental and administrative conferences. Directs, assists, and resolves problems encountered by division managers, supervisors and team leads in the development of objectives, physical facility, equipment and supply needs, personnel, organizational structure, work distribution and operational processes. Responsible for preparation of the annual budget, after evaluating trends and consulting with division supervisors, radiologist and the medical staff; and for overall department material needs, mechanical contractors, personnel, merit evaluation, new or modified equipment, and revenue increases as recommended to the administrative staff. Develops cost-effective programs to ensure budget is met. Coordinates departmental purchases and is responsible for stock level, storage and utilization. Takes remedial action to resolve or improve deficient operational conditions or problems, changes in work pattern, personnel and patients; discusses with chairman of Radiology Services problems initiated by the medical staff for corrective action; provides assistance in the recruitment of personnel and their selection and appointment; reviews and recommends merit increases, promotions, demotions, hiring and firing and reprimand practices. Conducts frequent inspection and observation of Radiology Services facilities and operations to determine the effectiveness of operations and to ensure compliance with rules and regulations, policies, and procedures. Meets and consults with the Chairman of Radiology Services concerning policies, procedures, patient care standards, facility utilization, operational matters and audits, and selection and termination of key technical personnel; assists in resolving related problems. Represents the department in daily, weekly, and monthly conferences and may represent the department chairman in other medical aspects, upon request. Meets and confers with other services concerning issues affecting Radiology Services. Works with Medical Staff, Nursing, and other healthcare professionals to resolve problems. Recommends action to administration regarding equipment modifications, new equipment and essential construction within the department, assists in the planning for all new facilities, and recommends facilities, equipment and personnel needs. Recommends short, intermediate and long term goals and objectives for departmental planning. Coordinates adequate clinical engineers service all diagnostic equipment, either through internal engineering services or contractual services, surveys preventive maintenance schedules and reports to ensure compliance with the Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation. Responsible for working with the Radiation Safety Officer to ensure the radiologic safety of the hospital to include recommending programming, monitoring, and location of warning or identifying devices in carrying out recommendations of the radioisotope committee. Communicates on a regular basis with all customers to ensure service expectations are met. Accountable for the performance improvement. Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

Considerable knowledge of modern hospital administration, principles and practices.
Considerable knowledge of practices and procedures including accounting, finance, purchasing, personnel, facilities, office procedures and records and specific related supporting services within the department.
Thorough knowledge of modern patient care and management principles as applied to radiologic technology.
Considerable knowledge of principles and procedures involved in the operation of radiologic equipment.
Ability to analyze operational data, employ approved management techniques and obtain maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
Ability to effectively coordinate various division functions and activities for maximum operation and efficiency.
Ability to direct, instruct, and advise division supervisors in the approved methods, procedures and practices employed in effective administration.
Ability to receive and effectively react to day-to-day problems presented by the division supervisors and others.
Ability to interpret the established policies into operational procedures and to execute hospital programs.
Ability to work effectively and smoothly with radiologists and other members of the medical staff as required.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the employees and the public.
Work requires required registry/certification in applicable imaging modality from any of the below: –
American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) registry or
American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or
Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB). OR
Registered Nurse with Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program OR Masters degree in a health or business related field
Five years of experience in Radiology as a Registered Nurse, Radiologic Technologist, MR, CT, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, Sonography, or Interventional Radiology, including four years in a supervisory role. OR A Master's degree in a health or business related field with five years of experience in Healthcare management, including two years in Radiology.
Certification as prescribed by ARRT, ARDMS/CCI, and/or NMTCB. OR A current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina is required.
