About The Position

The Director, Publicity & Communications, will serve as an integral member of the WBD Revenue & Strategy global communications team which is responsible for global publicity and communications for the business units within the WBD's Revenue & Strategy division including: Global Consumer Products, Global Experiences and Studio Operations, Global Content Sales, Global Franchise, DC Comics, US Advertising Sales, and Networks and Streaming Distribution. The positions will be directly responsible for developing and executing consumer publicity programs and campaigns, internal and external communications, and supporting external partners for WBD's Consumer Products, Experiences, Franchise, and Content Sales businesses, as well as working collaboratively with the business unit's functional areas, cross-divisionally, and across the enterprise.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in consumer publicity and/or entertainment with direct experience in theatrical content and publicity, consumer products, theme parks or related businesses is required. Previous global remit is desired.
  • Must demonstrate understanding and working knowledge of entertainment brands, IP and content models.
  • BS/BA degree in related field preferred.
  • Demonstrate a high level of communication proficiency through written and verbal communications, and personal presentation. Speak effectively, positively, and collaboratively.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with all stakeholders and interest groups regardless of level. Be prepared to present as a brand ambassador, business unit expert and representative.
  • Effectively manage/elevate any concerns or reputational risks to WBD/our IP. Use knowledge from wider communications groups to understand the impact of these issues on both individual campaigns, as well as larger impact on the company, partners, licensees, retailers, etc.
  • Strong relationships with key trade, genre and global pop culture journalists. Proven experience with media relations, publicity pitching and agency management.
  • Proven successes and understanding of traditional and interactive PR channels.
  • Be an engaged team player, and functional leader with a point of view, the ability to offer a unique perspective, original thinking, with a collaborative approach.
  • Exceptional presentation, executive presence and writing skills (writing samples required upon receipt of resume).
  • Ability to thrive under pressure, navigate ambiguity, and work with senior stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, and to work outside standard hours for major events, announcements, or issues response.
  • Exceptional proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.

Responsibilities

  • Working with senior team members on the Revenue & Strategy communications team, develop and implement communications and publicity strategies for consumer products programs for tentpole content events, annual franchise activations, anniversaries and tradeshows.
  • Work with internal category, franchise, and retail teams on communications strategy and written materials to ensure accurate extension of messaging to the press and fans.
  • Act as PR lead with external licensees, partners, and retailers to align communications and publicity strategies for programs and ongoing 365 licensing initiatives.
  • Direct communications and publicity strategy and execution for Global Experiences initiatives including but not limited to theme parks, studio tours, touring exhibitions, retail stores, concerts and more.
  • Act as PR lead for internal business unit team members and external partners and licensees, working across other divisions of WBD including franchise teams and local markets where applicable.
  • Lead communications and publicity strategies for Global Content Sales initiatives including but not limited to worldwide transactional and physical home entertainment releases, trade shows, and executive speaking engagements, working collaboratively across WBD's content business units in the lead up to, during and after release windows.
  • Responsible for securing key trade and consumer press stories to maximize business unit initiatives, including messaging development, pitching, scheduling, and staffing executive interviews, negotiating exclusive coverage for announcements/reveals, securing assets from internal stakeholders, writing press releases, media alerts and other media materials.
  • Build and sustain relationships with key members of the mainstream, business, and trade media.
  • Maintain effective working relationships within business units as well as other departments across Warner Bros. Discovery.
