About The Position

The Portfolio Insights team is responsible for enabling AbbVie to make data-driven decisions on portfolio choices both within and across Therapeutic Areas (TAs). Portfolio Insights TA leads provide analytics and recommendations to drive better decision-making across the internal portfolio and BD opportunities on a project and TA-level.The Director, Portfolio Insights - TA Lead acts as the voice of Portfolio Insights for their Therapeutic Areas. They will be responsible for presenting and defending recommendations for Therapeutic Area leadership and driving the analytics and co-ordination of inputs across functions to deliver high quality insights.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in scientific or business field required; MBA and PhD in scientific field preferred
7-10 years of experience with multi-faceted, broad based understanding of Pharma R D business processes, investment stage gating and commercial processes; fewer years can be considered if candidate has advanced degrees (MBA, PhD)
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to details
Experience with multi-faceted, broad based understanding of Pharma R D business processes, investment stage gating and commercial processes
Demonstrated experience working in fast paced settings, with a proven track record of delivering high quality and insightful analyses
Effective oral and written communication skills with proven ability to tailor analytical outputs to different audiences
Strong presence in meetings with willingness to navigate different functional perspectives and push for “enterprise thinking”
Strong organizational and project management skills commensurate with conducting multiple sophisticated analyses across several assets

Nice To Haves

Prior experience in Management Consulting and track record of experience in R D Strategy / Portfolio prioritization projects a plus

Responsibilities

Deliver high-impact recommendations for their Therapeutic Areas on project value, trade-offs and scenarios to senior leadership within TAs and in AbbVie governance forums.
Proactively identify opportunities where valuation and economic analysis can drive higher quality decision making for asset strategy teams and TAs.
Build value metrics (e.g., raNPV, PI) and any required scenario analysis to drive effective drug development decisions, working with ASLs (asset strategy leaders), Search & Evaluation (S&E), program managers, pipeline commercial leads, forecasting teams and others.
Coach team members on valuations, economic analysis and best practices for data-driven decision-making.
Provide an unbiased assessment of PTRS (probability of technical and regulatory success) for drug development projects, working with clinical development and regulatory teams.
Recommend TA-level prioritization of projects within their therapeutic areas, working with TA leadership and members of the portfolio insights team.
Support on key business processes facilitated by the Portfolio Insights team as the voice of their Therapeutic Areas (including R D Plan, Financial LRP, Quarterly Portfolio Prioritization, R D Productivity).
Engage effectively with functional stakeholders (e.g., Finance, PPM) to drive appropriate linkages and constructively pressure testing assumptions/ inputs
Work on continuous improvement efforts within Portfolio Insights to improve the team's ability to act as proactive strategic advisors that leverage modernized approaches (including AI/ML based predictive solutions) to drive better-decision making for the Portfolio.
