About The Position

Opened in 2007, Progress West Hospital is BJC HealthCare’s newest hospital in St. Charles County, featuring modern private rooms. It offers 24-hour emergency services and has partnered with St. Louis Children’s Hospital to provide world-class pediatric emergency care. Progress West Hospital also provides surgical services, endoscopy services, a cardiac catheterization lab, medical/surgical inpatient services, diagnostic imaging, lab services, and the Advanced Wound Center, a specialty wound treatment facility with state-of-the-art equipment. Progress West Hospital recently completed an expansion of its Childbirth Center to include enhanced services for at-risk mothers and babies, with a newborn ICU that provides care for babies born as early as 32 weeks. Progress West Hospital is a Certified Level II Stroke Center. The hospital’s medical office building houses offices for specialists in primary care, cardiology, obstetrics, pediatrics, and orthopedics. Administration supports the overall goals and sets the strategic direction of the organization. This area, along with all departments within the hospital, supports the guiding principles of the hospital in providing care that is customized and reflects the patient's needs, values, and choices. Role Purpose Directs the leaders of daily clinical activities in Perioperative Services and Clinical Services to promote high quality and efficient surgical care of patients. Directs units responsible for all direct patient care activities from preadmission testing to the day of surgery from arrival to the hospital through discharge, as well as endoscopy, respiratory therapy, PFT labs, angiography/catheterization labs, cardiac rehabilitation, cardiology diagnostics, and central sterile processing. Develops care practices that assure the highest level of safety and quality, patient satisfaction and a strong culture of teamwork among Nursing, Surgery, Anesthesiology, clinical, and support personnel.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree - Business/Healthcare related
  • 5-10 years
  • 2-5 years Supervisor Experience
  • Comfortable working in a pluralistic physician platform and within matrixed structures.
  • Proven ability to lead large scale change and prioritize the implementation of multiple projects over multiple years.
  • Effective, controlled, and congenial leadership presence with strong influencing skills—remains poised under pressure with strong verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Clearly knowledgeable in their field of expertise yet able to demonstrate humility and exceptional skills in developing and forging successful working relationships with senior and executive leadership, physicians, and other key functional stakeholders.
  • Able to lead to clear decisions in a changing, often ambiguous, environment.
  • Strategic and critical thinker with an eye towards, and an appreciation for, implementation tactics.
  • Keen financial intellect and strong quantitative/analytical acumen.
  • Excellent planning, interpersonal, problem solving, analytic (both qualitative and quantitative), and oral and written communication skills.
  • Adaptable and flexible style of collaborating.
  • Proven ability to develop relationships, quickly gain credibility, influence and partner with staff, business leaders, and the clinical community.

Responsibilities

  • Manages 7 individuals including but not limited to: onboarding and hiring, training, workload management & performance evaluations, conducting professional development plans as needed. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • Analyzes financial performance including profitability, market share, utilization of resources and physician practice patterns, and makes plans to positively impact results.
  • Ensures effective coordination and collaboration with chiefs of medical staff.
  • Plans, develops, and directs operations of department and integrates these services with other departments.
  • Creates an environment of patient care that emphasizes service excellence with a strong preference for continuous performance improvement. Analyzes trends and statistics to promote efficient utilization of resources.
