We are seeking a Director, People Operations to design and lead the operational backbone for Abby Care’s diverse workforce. This role is central to how we scale, combining compliance rigor, operational excellence, and an AI-native mindset to deliver a seamless employee experience. You will own the design and execution of People Operations across caregivers, corporate and clinical employees, and global contractors — ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance with state/federal labor laws, seamless employee lifecycle experience, and a scalable People systems infrastructure. This is both a builder and leadership role: you’ll set vision, design systems, and manage a distributed team across multiple geographies.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of People/HR Operations experience, including at least 3 years leading teams in high-growth, complex organizations.
  • Proven expertise in HR operations, compliance, HRIS, and benefits across multiple states.
  • Experience managing distributed operations teams and global contractors.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and scale systems and processes.
  • Comfort with AI/automation tools, with a track record of leveraging technology to drive efficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong understanding of U.S. employment law and caregiver/healthcare compliance is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead the People Operations team, covering payroll, benefits, compliance, HR systems and technology, and employee lifecycle management. You will directly and indirectly manage both U.S. based staff and global contractors.
  • Design and scale caregiver onboarding, payroll, and benefits processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance across states.
  • Partner closely with the Operations teams to ensure People Ops is tightly integrated into the caregiver experience.
  • Embed AI tools and automations into People workflows to drive efficiency and error reduction (e.g., payroll anomaly detection, automated compliance checks, employee ticket triage). Develop a “human + AI” operating model for People Ops staff and contractors.
  • Own HRIS, payroll, and benefits platforms; partner with Finance and Legal on compliance and audits.
  • Own the people technology and systems strategy and execution.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to employment laws across multiple states, with a focus on caregiver classification and benefits eligibility.;
  • Oversee employee support (caregivers and HQ staff), ensuring fast, empathetic, and accurate resolution of People-related inquiries.
  • Partner with the broader people organization to deliver a consistent, scalable employee experience.
