About The Position

We’re looking for a dynamic, hands-on leader who gets energized by building things from the ground up and isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves. As our Director of Payroll, Benefits & HR Systems, you’ll own the full employee lifecycle from an operational standpoint—payroll processing, benefits administration, and HRIS management—across locations in the US. This isn’t a “set it and forget it” role. You’ll be joining a PE-backed, high-growth reproductive medicine organization with 2,300+ employees and an aggressive acquisition strategy. You’ll bring order to complexity, optimize our ADP Workforce Now platform, and build a team that delivers an exceptional employee experience at every touchpoint. If you love the intersection of people operations and systems, thrive in a fast-paced healthcare environment, and believe that payroll accuracy and benefits excellence are acts of respect for every team member—we want to hear from you.

Requirements

  • 5–7+ years of progressive experience in payroll, benefits administration, and HRIS management, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership role managing direct reports.
  • Deep expertise with ADP Workforce Now (or comparable ADP platform) across multiple modules—you’re the person people call when something breaks.
  • Multi-state and multi-jurisdictional payroll experience required; Canadian payroll experience is a strong plus.
  • Proven track record in M&A integration —you’ve migrated payroll, benefits, and employee data for acquired entities and lived to tell the tale.
  • Strong command of benefits compliance: ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, HIPAA, and state-specific leave laws.
  • You are energetic, solutions-oriented, and comfortable operating at both the strategic and tactical level—you can present to executives in the morning and troubleshoot a payroll discrepancy in the afternoon.

Nice To Haves

  • Canadian payroll experience is a strong plus.
  • Experience in healthcare is a strong plus; reproductive medicine or fertility clinic experience is highly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, Accounting, or related field; CPP, CEBS, PHR/SPHR, or SHRM-CP/SCP certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end payroll for 2,300+ employees across multiple states, ensuring 100% accuracy and on-time delivery every cycle.
  • Drive payroll compliance across all jurisdictions, proactively addressing wage and hour regulations, tax filings, and multi-state/multi-country complexities.
  • Lead payroll integration for newly acquired practices, standing up new pay groups, mapping compensation structures, and ensuring seamless first-day-pay experiences.
  • Manage relationships with external payroll vendors, tax agencies, and auditors.
  • Oversee the full benefits lifecycle: open enrollment, carrier management, plan design, COBRA, ACA compliance, leave administration, and 401(k) operations.
  • Partner with brokers and carriers to evaluate plan performance, negotiate renewals, and develop creative strategies to manage cost while maximizing employee value.
  • Standardize benefits offerings across acquired entities, managing complex carrier transitions and harmonizing plans on a clear timeline.
  • Serve as the go-to resource for escalated employee benefits questions, resolving issues with empathy and urgency.
  • Serve as the system owner and subject matter expert for ADP Workforce Now across all modules: employee records, payroll, benefits, onboarding, recruiting, time & attendance, and reporting.
  • Optimize system configuration to support business needs, building custom reports, dashboards, and workflows that give leaders real-time visibility into workforce data.
  • Drive data integrity and establish governance protocols for employee records, ensuring compliance with audit and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead system integrations for M&A activity, including data migration, testing, and go-live support.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of 4: two Benefits Administrators, a Payroll Manager, and a Payroll Specialist.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and service excellence —your team should feel empowered to solve problems and proud of the work they do.
  • Build scalable processes and documentation so operations can grow with the organization.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Operations, Compliance, and clinical leadership.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental & vision
  • 401(k) with match
  • Generous PTO
  • Fertility benefits
  • Tuition reimbursement
