About The Position

Conservation International protects nature for the benefit of humanity, securing important places in nature for climate, biodiversity, and people through science, policy, fieldwork, and finance. With offices in 30 countries and projects in over 100, Conservation International partners with various entities to help people and nature thrive. This Director of Organizational Development position is based in Arlington, VA, within the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF). CEPF is a joint program that awards grants and provides technical assistance to civil society partners in developing countries to safeguard biodiversity hotspots. The CEPF Secretariat is managed from Conservation International Headquarters. The Director reports to the Senior Director of Monitoring, Evaluation and Outreach (MEOU) at CEPF and works closely with the Grants Team and CEPF's Regional Implementation Teams (RITs). The role involves ensuring the implementation of CEPF’s five-year Organizational Development (OD) strategy across its global portfolio, with initial pilot interventions in specific hotspots. This fast-paced role requires using CEPF’s online grants management system, international travel, and collaboration with global staff, offering an opportunity to build the resilience and sustainability of the conservation community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 7 years or more of related experience
  • A record of success in enabling OD of civil society entities, preferably with those engaged in conservation
  • Excellent technical and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Excellent facilitation and training skills
  • Team player and able to work effectively with diverse work groups in a multicultural environment
  • Ability to work well under pressure, multitask, set priorities, and deliver quality results
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and under minimal supervision
  • Fluency in English

  • Experience in biodiversity conservation, community development, or related fields
  • Language skills other than English (French, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and/or Russian preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Oversee implementation of CEPF’s OD Strategy
  • Coordinate translation of OD strategy and associated tools and documents into selected languages
  • Develop training materials pertaining to OD suitable for CEPF staff, RIT staff and CEPF grantees
  • Deliver training on OD to RITs and CEPF grantees
  • Support RITs to deliver OD to grantees in their hotspots
  • Supervise global grants awarded by CEPF for OD
  • Identify and liaise with external OD providers that may play a role in delivering the OD strategy
  • Lead on OD impact assessment and monitoring
  • Prepare reports for donors on OD
  • Conduct other tasks, as requested by the Senior Director
  • Participate fully as a member MEOU and attend weekly MEOU meetings
  • Collaborate with MEOU staff on priorities such as gender, social sustainability, and learning
  • Coordinate with other teams (Communications, Grants, Finance) within the CEPF Secretariat, for full integration of OD as appropriate
  • Participate in monthly CEPF all-staff meetings, team events, and retreats
