The Director, Operational Excellence is a senior site leadership role at Dexcom’s Mesa, AZ manufacturing and operations site and a core member of the site leadership team. Reporting to the U.S. Vice President of Operations and Manufacturing, with a strong dotted-line relationship to the Site Manufacturing Leader, this role is responsible for driving sustained operational performance by embedding the Dexcom Production System (DPS) into daily execution. This leader owns the design, deployment, and sustainment of a robust site-level Operational Excellence and PMO capability, accountable for translating strategy into disciplined execution and measurable improvements across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Compliance. The role requires a strong on‑site presence and hands‑on leadership in a highly regulated medical device manufacturing environment. The Director will lead a team of Operational Excellence and PMO professionals and serve as the site owner of Lean systems, performance management, and operating cadence. Success in this role depends on the ability to move beyond isolated improvement events to build durable capabilities, strong governance, and leader accountability at all levels of the organization. The ideal candidate is an execution‑oriented change leader with deep experience leading site‑level Operational Excellence in regulated manufacturing environments. They bring strong Lean and CI expertise, financial discipline, and the credibility to influence plant and enterprise leaders—bridging vision and strategy with consistent, sustainable execution that delivers real business results and an exceptional end‑user experience for Dexcom’s CGM products.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated success leading site-based Operational Excellence and PMO teams delivering measurable operational results.
  • Deep expertise in Lean Manufacturing, structured problem solving, and continuous improvement systems
  • Proven experience deploying site performance management systems, KPI structures, and operating cadences.
  • Consistently execute against established strategy through disciplined planning, prioritization, and governance.
  • Strong financial acumen, including business case development, cost modeling, and benefits tracking.
  • Use data and structured analysis to drive decisions and align cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Set clear expectations, reinforce accountability, and ensure follow-through on commitments.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and leading change within a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on leader who can coach teams and partner effectively with site leaders to drive sustained performance improvement.
  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree with 15+ years of industry experience
  • 9+ years of successful management
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Examples of English language proficiency may include (but are not limited to): ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to verbally communicate with leadership, employees, and auditors; ability to comprehend spoken language.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the deployment and sustainment of the Dexcom Production System (DPS) at the Mesa manufacturing site, ensuring consistent application of Lean principles, structured problem solving, and daily management practices.
  • Act as a visible site-level change leader, reinforcing leader standard work, tiered accountability, and performance disciplines across manufacturing and support functions.
  • Partner closely with the Site Manufacturing Leader and functional leaders to align on priorities, address execution barriers, and drive operational performance improvements.
  • Implement site Operational Excellence governance practices and maturity assessments aligned with established global standards and expectations.
  • Design, deploy, and sustain site performance management routines, including SQDCP metrics, visual management, escalation paths, and tiered review forums.
  • Lead the site operating cadence (daily, weekly, monthly), ensuring data-driven discussions, clear accountability, and timely follow-through on commitments.
  • Conduct regular site capability and maturity assessments to identify performance gaps and inform site improvement priorities.
  • Lead deployment of Lean Manufacturing, structured problem solving, Kaizen, Six Sigma, and Value Engineering across manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, and support functions.
  • Reinforce standardized problem-solving routines to move continuous improvement from isolated events to repeatable site capabilities.
  • Develop leaders and teams through hands-on coaching, Gemba engagement, targeted CI training, and reinforcement of standard work practices.
  • Support site digitalization efforts by leveraging data analytics and business intelligence to improve performance visibility and decision making.
  • Collaborate effectively within a matrix organization, building strong working relationships with site and global partners.
  • Lead the site PMO to support effective execution of site initiatives through structured planning, tracking, risk management, and reporting.
  • Translate site priorities into clear project plans with defined scope, milestones, risks, and expected benefits.
  • Apply standardized PMO tools, governance routines, and reporting mechanisms to support disciplined execution and visibility of site initiatives.
  • Partner with Finance to develop business cases, cost models, and benefits tracking for site improvement, capacity, and capital initiatives.
  • Drive measurable improvements in productivity, cost, throughput, capacity utilization, and operational efficiency at the site level.
  • Ensure Operational Excellence and PMO activities comply with medical device quality systems, cGMP, and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Quality, Engineering, and Regulatory teams to support audits, validations, CAPAs, and sustained compliance while improving site performance.
  • Build and lead high-performing site-based Operational Excellence and PMO teams through clear roles, capability expectations, development plans, and succession planning.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, problem solving, accountability, and respect across the site.
