About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Associate Vice President for Student Success and Engagement, the Director of the Office of Belonging and Inclusion (OBI) serves as the lead administrator for the Office of Belonging and Inclusion and the Men’s Success Initiative. The Director is responsible for the planning, implementation, coordination, and assessment of programs, services, and training that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, identity development, and a sense of belonging in support of student engagement, retention, and degree completion. The Director implements institution-wide initiatives that support the recruitment, matriculation, persistence, and graduation of students identified by the CSU system as underrepresented. Using a student-centered and equity-minded approach, the Director develops and delivers culturally responsive programs that support the academic, social, emotional, and overall success of students from diverse, historically underserved, and traditionally disenfranchised populations. Furthermore, this position is responsible for providing services that are equitable, inclusive and culturally sensitive to enhance the quality of campus life, retention, and graduation rates. This position uses a student-centered and equity-minded approach in all communication and service efforts.

Requirements

• Working knowledge of student learning and development theories, higher education practices, and student affairs principles, particularly as they relate to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and student success.
• Knowledge of best practices and emerging trends in higher education and Student Affairs, including programs serving underrepresented, low income, first generation, and other diverse student populations.
• Knowledge of assessment frameworks and program evaluation methods, including student learning outcomes and administrative outcomes; familiarity with CAS Standards for Multicultural Student Programs preferred.
• Knowledge of university policies, procedures, and organizational practices, or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge.
• Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to plan, coordinate, implement, and assess multiple programs, initiatives, and large scale events concurrently.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to develop clear, effective materials and presentations for students, staff, faculty, administrators, and campus partners.
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative working relationships across divisions, departments, and levels of the organization.
• Demonstrated skill in program planning, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement of educational initiatives, services, and activities.
• Effective problem solving and analytical skills, including the ability to evaluate complex situations, identify relevant issues, and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Proficiency in the use of standard office technology and software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) to support administrative, communication, and reporting functions.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment, take initiative, and make sound decisions consistent with divisional and university priorities.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and effectively control projects to mitigate delays, budget concerns, or operational risks.
• Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team and coordinate work with others in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with and relate to individuals from diverse backgrounds, identities, and levels of responsibility.
• Ability to represent the Division of Student Affairs on division and university level committees and working groups, as assigned.
• Ability to plan and oversee large scale programs and events, including occasional evening and weekend commitments.
• Ability to conduct public speaking engagements and facilitate presentations and trainings for diverse audiences.
• Ability to apply safe work practices and comply with university policies and applicable regulations.
• Ability to consistently report to work prepared to perform the full range of duties associated with the position.
• Experience overseeing or coordinating complex programs or events involving large or diverse audiences.
• Proficiency in the use of personal computers and standard software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and related database or presentation tools.
• Ability to consistently report to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain equanimity, professionalism, and sound judgment during urgent, complex, or challenging situations.
• Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

• Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of three years of progressive responsibility in higher education, preferably directing a college or university department/program for diverse student populations or elated experience required.
• CA Driver's License

• Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Sociology, Education, or Ethnic Studies or a closely related field.
• Experience with planning and coordinating special events.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and maintain the Office of Belonging and Inclusion
• Supervises and leads budget and develops short-term and long-range financial plans.
• Supervises preparation of expenditure projection reports and other fiscal reports for the Division office.
• Meet, confer, and collaborate regularly with the units throughout the Division of Student Affairs, the Dean of Students, as well as with academic departments, campus partners and community organizations to understand specific needs and create and tailor training to identified needs and requests in support of student success.
