About The Position

This is a contract position through September 30, 2026 (with full benefits + potential renewal pending continued TRIO grant funding) Priority application review deadline of October 22, 2025. The TRIO Director is a visionary leader and recognized expert in college preparation, responsible for advancing postsecondary opportunity. The role oversees five federally funded programs: two Talent Search, two Upward Bound, and one Upward Bound Math and Science grant---by providing strategic leadership, supervising program coordinators, and managing program budgets to deliver high-quality services for first-generation and low-income students. As an authority in academic preparation and educational partnerships, the TRIO Director ensures compliance with federal regulations, creates TRIO-wide systems and resources, and stays ahead of policy changes that may impact participant eligibility or program delivery. The Director also leads assessment and continuous improvement efforts, strengthens partnerships with schools and community organizations, and contributes to long-term planning and grant development. Reporting to the Director of College Preparation, the Director of TRIO Programs works closely with TRIO stakeholders including partner school districts, school administration, U.S. Department of Education and multiple UCSF departments. This position requires 50% on-site presence at high schools within the Antioch, Pittsburg, and Vallejo City Unified school districts with at minimum 2 days of in-person work every week at UCSF's Mission Center. The TRIO Director must be available to work some evenings and weekends. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $140,000 (Annual Rate). Requirements

  • Master's degree in related area and minimum ten years of experience or equivalent combination education/experience
  • At least five (5) years of professional experience with federal TRIO programs or similar educational equity and access initiatives
  • Minimum 3-5 years direct experience in staff supervision, budget management, program development and evaluation, and reporting and compliance with federal regulations
  • Academic background and recognized expertise in developing college preparation programs and educational partnerships
  • Leadership experience in academic and/or K-14 education
  • Extensive knowledge of state and national educational structures and policies, current educational theories and successful academic preparation programs
  • Demonstrated expertise building collaborations with community agencies and K-14 partners
  • Extensive knowledge of project management including program design, implementation, and evaluation
  • Expert knowledge of high school graduation and college eligibility requirements in California
  • Extensive experience managing budgets of at least $200,000
  • Extensive people management experience with demonstrated record of successfully supporting subordinates with achieving results
  • Knowledge and experience in developing meaningful metrics and measures to evaluate and report program effectiveness
