Terms of Employment: 12-Month Exemption Status: Exempt AFSCME Salary Scale: UB GRADE 26 https://www.ccboe.com/careers/salary-scales EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in education, transportation or related field Five years’ successful experience in the field of transportation Experience in public education, preferred QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrates leadership, organizational, and planning skills in a transportation environment Demonstrates the ability to think strategically and inspire others to action Demonstrates ability to work professionally and discreetly with confidential information Excellent analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment Excellent customer service, communication (both written and verbal), and cross-group collaboration skills required Demonstrates knowledge of school system redistricting and redistricting software programs ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Coordinates and supervises all school-based bus operations Manages a fleet of system-owned buses and supervises a supporting staff Develops and administers the transportation budget Manages the payroll for contracted operations Directs the development of local policies and standard operating procedures governing student transportation Manages an automated routing and scheduling system in the development of all bus stops and bus routes Plans and directs the routes of contracted school buses for students aged 3 through grade 12 Approves requests for special education transportation needs Analyzes and recommends school starting times Serves as school system redistricting co-facilitator Develops, implements, and monitors a driver certification program to meet all state and federal requirements Assists the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and first responders with transportation-related accidents/incidents Collaborates with the Traffic Safety Division of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office Oversees and appoints the Accident Review Committee Advises on loading and unloading zones Investigates and makes recommendations pertaining to early dismissal, closing, and late openings of schools due to road conditions or other safety factors Investigates concerns with student transportation Maintains communications and liaisons with parents, parent groups, civic organizations, and other community resources Collaborates with various offices to support transportation needs for after-school and summer academic programs Coordinates the private parochial school transportation system Serves on various committees with other county agencies when requested Position is classified as an essential personnel/worker ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
