About The Position

Boston College High School is a Catholic, Jesuit, independent, college preparatory school serving approximately 1300 young men from various communities across Massachusetts. Founded in 1863, Boston College High School is committed to an authentic formation of the head, heart, and hands within the parameters of the Characteristics of Jesuit Education, the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm, the BC High Mission Statement, and the strategic plan. As a senior leader in a Jesuit school, the Director of the Hyde Center for Global Education (Director) is inspired at all times by the highest Ignatian ideal of Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam (For the Greater Glory of God). Within this context lies the Ignatian ideals of companionship and collegiality. This relationship was modeled by St. Ignatius and his early companions and strives to uphold the virtues of being Christ-centered people for and with others. The Director should be an exemplary leader who models the way, inspires a shared vision, challenges the process, enables others to act and encourage the heart. They should demonstrate the capacity to establish direction through a clearly articulated vision and concomitant strategies, align, motivate and inspire others in a shared vision, and produce and lead change. The Director should be discerning and reflective, deeply committed to the ongoing exploration of their own spirituality, in order to accompany faculty, staff and students. The Director is responsible for the overall leadership of the Hyde Center for Global Education (Center). This is a 12-month role. The Director will need to have a demonstrated capacity to think strategically and operationally and to have led innovative initiatives in the area of global education. The Director will have demonstrated experience with program development, oversight and assessment. The Director will have primary responsibility for all aspects of Center leadership, management, and growth. The Director will be responsible for creating and directing a long-term strategic plan and appropriate opportunities for the long-term growth of BC High’s global initiatives. This strategic planning process will be mindful of expansion opportunities for the Hyde Center, including, but not limited to expanded collaborative efforts with local Jesuit high schools; the Hyde Center serving as a global education resource for a broader base of schools within the US Jesuit conference; and the physical plant needs of a comprehensive global education program. The Director will be a front-facing representative of the Center and the School, liaising with the Advancement team, donors, and external leaders to develop and expand the program. The position involves a domestic and international travel component as well as representation at speaking engagements, being a front-facing administrator on behalf the School in all of its global leadership components.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five-years experience working with global networks, international education, or similar global missions/initiatives.
  • Proven record of strong communication, strategic thinking, and effective collaboration skills are essential.
  • A commitment to justice and belonging efforts.
  • Capacity to develop, articulate, and inspire a vision of leadership by drawing others to it.
  • Knowledge of current trends and empirical research in the area of global education.
  • Proven ability to develop strategic relationships across disciplines and across cultures advancing the Society of Jesus’ “universal mission” and efforts to enhance and strengthen network wide collaboration.
  • International experience that influences the global direction of BC High and ability to facilitate new relationships worldwide.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience having integrated a global program or similar program into the academic curriculum of a school is desirable.
  • Fluency in a second language is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • continue to develop a robust, evidence based global education program, congruent with the vision and mission of the school
  • develop and implement all programming to publicize and make the program accessible broadly to students, faculty, and staff at the school, as well as alumni and parents through a clearly articulated program, ensure that the school community develops a deep understanding of global citizenship and interculturality
  • identify intersectionality and opportunities for integration of the program into the academic curriculum
  • lead and further develop the Centers Certificate program and oversee the expansion of the Global Designated course catalog
  • collaborate directly with the Principal and Vice-Principals to lead BC High’s efforts to further integrate/expand global education into the curriculum and educational program of BC High
  • attend Academic Council meetings and other leadership meetings as assigned
  • ensure that the program complements the other centers in the school, namely the Michael D. White ’70 Center for Emerging Leaders, the McNeice Center for Ignatian Identity and Formation, the Imago Dei Center for Justice and Belonging, and the Shields Center for Innovation, as well as the overall educational program
  • be able to articulate the current priorities of the Society of Jesus, with a particular focus on global education and interculturality
  • recruit Program Coordinators and provide leadership and direction to Hyde Center team
  • develop strategic plan and sustainable practices for Global Education at the school
  • develop and foster relationships with other Jesuit Institutions
  • recommend, develop, and oversee the implementation of new program offerings
  • oversee management of current exchange programs, including development of curriculum and activities, travel protocols and liability management
  • provide evaluation of programs and suggest improvements
  • serve as the primary contact for Hyde Center Programs and point person for any problems that may arise when the programs are in session
  • oversee mapping of all programming in relationship to the Graduate at Graduation document and in keeping with the other center directors’ work
  • oversee all additional Hyde Center programs that become available due to grant proposals or possible Hyde Center expansion
  • incorporate more comprehensive global programming opportunities in the Arrupe division
  • collaborate with Advancement by participating in donor meetings, proposals, and stewardship initiatives as necessary
  • work with the VP for External Relations to develop a marketing/advertising plan for promoting Hyde Center programs and create appropriate promotional information and brochures that identify the Hyde Center as one of BC High’s most unique and transformative offerings
  • serve as the primary contact for students, parents, and partners for all Hyde Center programs and advocate for the mission and goals of the Hyde Center at a range of BC High functions and events
  • collaborate with the Office of Enrollment to ensure Hyde Center programs are highlighted at all appropriate admissions events and in BC High’s marketing efforts for all prospective families
  • develop and maintain a comprehensive budget for all Hyde Center programs
  • ensure overall financial sustainability, and short and long term fiscal health of the Center
  • redevelop the Hyde Center Advisory Council, faculty, and administration to continuously develop the Hyde Center for Global Education
  • attend meetings and presentations whenever necessary and to represent the school in a variety of forums whenever required
