About The Position

The Director of the Justin and Darrianne Christian Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) provides strategic leadership for one of DePauw University’s signature student-centered spaces. Established in 2017 through the generosity and vision of alumni Justin and Darrianne Christian ’95, the CDI serves as the home of the Dorothy Brown Cultural Resource Center and stands as a welcoming space for students, families, and alumni. The Director leads the CDI as a dynamic campus hub that fosters dialogue, leadership development, and student engagement. Honoring its historic roots while welcoming all students, the Director oversees programming, partnerships, and the CDI’s shared spaces to ensure it remains a meaningful resource that enhances the student experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in program and student development, preferably within a higher education setting.
  • Requires excellent verbal, written communication skills. Must also be able to present information and engage university constituents in various settings.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and experience working with diverse populations.
  • Strong leadership and strategic planning skills, with the ability to implement initiatives that align with institutional goals.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills, particularly in promoting dialogue across perspectives.
  • Experience in budget management, staff supervision, and program evaluation.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree (or demonstrated graduate degree progress) in Higher Education Administration, Social Justice, Cultural Studies or a related field preferred.
  • Some fluency in Spanish is highly desired.
  • Experience with data analysis and reporting highly desired.
  • Familiarity with management of social media platforms, a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership Develop and implement a strategic vision for the CDI that aligns with DePauw University’s mission and institutional priorities related to student engagement, academic success, and leadership development.
  • Honor and steward the legacy of the Cultural Resource Center while ensuring the CDI remains a welcoming space for all members of the campus community.
  • Use campus climate and engagement data to inform programming and initiatives that enhance student and employee belonging and participation.
  • Position the CDI as a bridge connecting current students with alumni and friends of the University.
  • Program Development and Implementation Collaborate with academic departments, programs, and campus partners to create interdisciplinary programming that reflects DePauw’s liberal arts tradition.
  • Support student organizations affiliated with the CDI.
  • Develop educational initiatives that encourage respectful dialogue, critical thinking, and engagement across differences.
  • Student Engagement and Support Serve as a resource and mentor to students seeking community, connection, and leadership growth.
  • Support student-led initiatives, including signature campus events, heritage celebrations, and community-building programs.
  • Supervise student employees and interns, providing guidance, professional development, and skill-building opportunities.
  • Cultivate leadership pathways that prepare students for success beyond DePauw.
  • Collaboration and Partnership Work closely with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Enrollment Management, and other campus offices to support student recruitment, success, and engagement.
  • Partner with alumni, parents, and regional organizations to strengthen connections between current students and the broader DePauw community.
  • Represent the CDI on campus committees and working groups related to student experience and community engagement.
  • Administration and Operations Oversee daily operations and stewardship of the CDI facility, maintaining a welcoming and mission-aligned campus space.
  • Manage scheduling and shared space access, including event areas and the community kitchen.
  • Lead budget oversight, reporting, assessment, and staff supervision.
  • Ensure compliance with University policies and applicable laws.
  • Other Duties Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President to support the overall mission and goals of DePauw University.
