About The Position

The Director of Technology provides leadership, planning, and management of the district's instructional and information technology systems. This position oversees infrastructure, cybersecurity, and data systems while advancing technology integration. The Director of Technology ensures reliable, secure, and equitable access to technology resources across the district and provides strategic direction for the effective use of educational technology.

Requirements

  • 5 years of technology leadership experience
  • Experience overseeing districtwide IT infrastructure, servers, networks, and systems
  • Experience supervising technology staff or departments
  • Experience with instructional technology integration and educational technology
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity practices and data privacy/copyright laws
  • Knowledge of Google Workspace, Active Directory, and cloud systems
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
  • Experience with budget planning, purchasing, and asset management
  • Experience with technology planning and long-term replacement cycles
  • Ability to develop and deliver staff professional development
  • Familiarity with E-rate and grant funding
  • Experience in project management or process improvement
  • Understanding of educational technology systems (LMS, SIS, etc.)
  • Knowledge of data analytics and dashboards to inform decision-making

  • METAA CTO or CoSN CETL certification (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provide vision and strategic planning for district technology to align with instructional goals and future needs
  • Develop and implement a district technology plan and vision
  • Manage and support instructional and administrative technologies
  • Prepare and manage technology budgets (operating and capital)
  • Develop technology policies, standards, and procedures
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend new technologies
  • Ensure accessibility, equity, and compliance with educational technology standards
  • Partner with Teaching & Learning leaders to evaluate digital learning tools for instructional impact and alignment with DESE standards
  • Maintain membership for MASSCue and METAA
  • Supervise technology staff (network administrator, computer technicians, communications coordinator, and educational access television coordinator)
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Serve on district leadership teams and committees
  • Provide reports and recommendations to the Superintendent or School Committee
  • Communicate effectively with staff, families, and community
  • Oversee student information systems, email, and website operations
  • Oversee system monitoring, backups, and regular maintenance
  • Manage vendor contracts and service agreements
  • Represent the district at state, regional, or inter-district technology meetings
  • Administer the DESE Security Portal and act as the DESE Directory Administrator
  • Maintain systems for district emergency notifications
  • Ensure data security, privacy compliance, and cybersecurity defense
  • Coordinate disaster recovery and business continuity planning
  • Coordinate and support DESE/state/federal data submissions
  • Oversee software licensing, asset tracking, and inventory systems
  • Oversee grants, E-rate, and funding initiatives for technology programs
  • Collaborate with district and school leadership to integrate technology into instruction
  • Provide professional development for staff and administrators
  • Serve as the district MCAS Administrator
