About The Position

The Boston Latin Academy technology director is responsible for securing, maintaining, and distributing the technology necessary for classroom instruction and building operations. The technology director also serves as an in-house help desk for staff having difficulties with hardware or software. The technology director will also ensure that technology integration in the BLA is a priority and effectively implemented in classrooms. The director will work with members of the leadership and support staff to ensure that the necessary testing occurs across all grade levels in accordance with BPS and state testing schedules and work to create pathways for students to be responsible users of technology in the school space. This person will work to implement and support new technology processes and procedures for both adults and students that ensure that technology use is seamless and a priority at BLA. This includes the usage and integration of cell phones, Ipads, and other digital devices that enhance the schools overall ability to support students. The job goals include anticipating technology needs and proactively creating plans for the acquisition of new technology, securing needed technology and funding to enhance programmatic goals, tracking, maintaining, and replenishing building technology in support with the district and any additional school funding via grants or otherwise, distributing building technology, working to create policy and sustainable practices for technology use and integration schoolwide, supporting staff and students in acquiring the skills necessary to navigate technology needs within the school, assisting with yearly generation of teacher and student schedules, prioritizing planning and supporting the growth and development of a computer science pathway at BLA, training and supervising any additional staff in supporting the technology needs of the BLA community, and working directly with district support to develop best practices to support a large comprehensive high school while also making sure that collaboration is prioritized and nuanced needs are met.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in educational technology, information technology, computer science, or a related field.
  • Significant professional experience in a technology leadership role, with a preference for experience in K-12 education environments.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing technology projects and initiatives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Deep understanding of the role of technology in education and its potential to transform teaching and learning.
  • Ability to manage budgets and resources effectively, ensuring the efficient use of technology investments.
  • Advanced proficiency with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and online databases.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Secure, maintain, and distribute instructional and operational technology (e.g. Chromebooks, Chromebook carts, big screen TVs, video projectors, projector bulbs, document cameras, staff laptops, power supplies, speakers, audio-visual accessories, photocopiers, toner, paper, headphones, language lab equipment, electronic signage, and online services).
  • Set up and maintain systems for distributing, repairing, and replacing student Chromebooks, training and coordinating stipended technology coordinators.
  • Train, coordinate, and supervise student volunteers who assist with copy room maintenance and other technology-related tasks.
  • Provide on-the-spot technical support to staff members and students having difficulties with hardware or software.
  • Budget for technological needs and prioritize requests in accordance with funds availability.
  • Maintain BLA’s website and post materials submitted by others.
  • Develop custom information technology solutions (e.g. library sign-up system, classroom coverage communications spreadsheet, tools for generating student and teacher schedules, numerous spreadsheets, automated system for posting events to schoolwide calendar, custom website interface scripting).
  • Select and use off-the-shelf information technology solutions (e.g. parents’ night scheduling software).
  • Prepare and send complex mail-merged emails to families regarding school events.
  • Any additional administrative duties necessary for school success.
  • Assist with planning and implementing the yearly process of producing a master schedule for teachers and students, implementing advanced custom solutions for anticipating student course requests, allocating staffing resources, collecting student course requests, and generating teacher and student schedules.
  • Assist with developing implementing building policies such as cell phone and chromebook policies.
  • Work to create, finalize, and support testing for MCAS, SAT, PSAT, MAP.
