About The Position

Director of Technology State of Idaho Opportunity This posting will be open until filled or until a final closing date of 11/22/2025. About Us: Idaho Public Television is a PBS member station and Idaho's only locally owned and operated statewide broadcast network. We are a state agency under the Idaho State Board of Education. Our nonprofit arm, The Friends of Idaho Public Television, Inc., provides private support for our content production and educational efforts and allows us to produce award-winning long form documentaries, quality public affairs journalism, podcasts, educational digital lesson plans, and community events. Summary: Plan, administer, evaluate and budget for the statewide infrastructure of broadcast and IT facilities for Idaho Public Television. To lead, motivate and develop technology department managers and staff.

Requirements

  • Managing operation and or maintaining broadcast systems such as: Transmitters, Translators, Microwave, Antennas, and feedlines. Network Operation systems; Automation, Record and Playout servers, switchers, and Transport stream encoding Satellite Downlinks and IP based delivery Typically gained by an associate's degree, forty-five (45) semester units in broadcast technology electronics OR Equivalent technology trade school certification such as military electronics or related field. Equivalent to approximately 700 hours formal training OR 6+ years verifiable on the job experience troubleshooting and repairing broadcast technology electronics or equivalent technology.
  • Project management Typically gained by at least one year of experience managing projects with at least one year in a leadership role. Experience must have included being responsible for the development (needs assessment, planning and budgeting) of the projects as well as being responsible for assessing the projects toward goals and project outcomes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of: Supervisory practices Typically gained by 6+ years directly supervising a team OR master's degree in related subject and 2 years relevant professional experience.

Nice To Haves

  • 10 years of experience as a director of technology OR 5 years of experience working in television engineering or related technology with 1 year experience performing at a director level.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, administer, and evaluate statewide technology infrastructure and telecommunications facilities for Idaho Public Television
  • Operational Oversight: Supervise and administer all Idaho PTV television studio, transmitter, microwave facilities, translators, IT infrastructure and technical personnel
  • Lead, Motivate, and Develop Technology Department Managers & Staff
  • Budgeting: Develop and recommend program budgets
  • Member of Agency Leadership Team: Establish and cultivate strong relationships with peers, across different levels of the organization and externally
