About The Position

The mission of CWC Kansas City is to provide an excellent public education focused on developing and demonstrating understanding while building connections within the school community. The Director of Summer School will oversee the administration and operation of the Summer School program of Citizens of the World. This is a full-time, stipended position located in Kansas City, MO. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) and appropriate Missouri Elementary Certification (i.e. “B-3 Early Childhood Education,” “1-6 Elementary Education,” and/or “K-12 Administration”)
  • Experience (minimum six years preferred) teaching early elementary grades; experience supervising/coaching primary grade educators preferred
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including English language learners and students with special needs
  • Experience organizing and managing a student-centered classroom that includes age-appropriate, culturally-responsive classroom management practices
  • Experience with and passion for pedagogical practices grounded in constructivism, project-based learning, and the multiple intelligences theory; and in creating appropriate standards-based curriculum in accordance with these philosophies
  • Experience developing caring classroom environments where instructional time is dedicated to community-building, conflict resolution skill-building, and empowering students to be peacemakers and agents for positive social change
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills as well as a desire to collaborate with various stakeholders to help develop a strong school community
  • Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and a can-do attitude
  • Willingness to explore additional school responsibilities (before/after school care and classes, committee involvement, etc.); stipends may be available for such responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Collaboration with the Executive Director and Principal to plan and carry out a Summer School program consistent with our school mission and model and providing academic support, supplements, and joyful engaging activities.
  • Planning with the Director of Special Education and Director of Student Support, to staff a team to meet the needs of all diverse learners and ensure their equitable access to CWCKC Summer School
  • Coordinating with off-site partners at Cristo Rey, CWCKC’s Summer School location
  • Hiring and onboarding the CWCKC Summer School teaching staff
  • Planning and scheduling supplemental activities and field trips that support learning that is developmentally appropriate within the Summer School budget
  • Being a liaison for CWCKC and Cristo Rey staff
  • Managing the CWCKC Summer School communications practices with parents and guardians including maintaining regular, informative communications, sharing sensitive information, responding to parent needs and requests, and developing effective student support teams for all students
  • Ensuring materials and units of study are accessible to teachers prior to summer school
  • Coordination and delivery of summer school materials and supplies to Cristo Rey
  • Function as Administrator-In-Charge across the 19 days of CWCKC Summer School and 2 days of teacher meetings and preparation/clean up in June
  • Actively participating in regular professional development activities, both internal and external
  • Maintaining frequent, sensitive, and effective communication with students, students’ families, colleagues, and other school stakeholders
  • Performing other reasonable and necessary duties as assigned
