The primary purpose of Davidson College is to assist students in developing humane instincts and disciplined and creative minds for lives of leadership and service. The Director of Student Rights & Responsibilities is responsible for coordinating the administration of the college’s student accountability program to ensure an equitable, educational, and restorative accountability process for students. Adhering to our Statement of Community Responsibility, the director provides leadership to accountability practices, developmental and educational context for student behaviors, and training/outreach to staff who facilitate accountability policies in Residence Life and other areas. The director will lead accountability processes to assist individual students and student organizations in addressing conflict and alleged policy violations focused on student learning, parity, compassion, and fairness. Specific responsibilities are listed below. The director will work closely a variety of Student Life and campus partners, including Residence Life, Student Health and Wellbeing, fraternities, sororities, and eating houses in collaboration with Student Engagement; General Counsel, Title IX Coordinator, members of the Student Honor Council, Code of Responsibility Council, and Student Conduct Council. The director must be knowledgeable of emerging trends and current events in higher education, particularly as they regard student conduct and restorative practices. The director is a full-time, 12 months per year, salaried position that reports to the Associate Dean of Students. The functions of the position included, but are not limited to:
