About The Position

The Director of Science and Technology will provide senior-level technical leadership, strategic direction, and regulatory oversight for the company’s environmental remediation programs across the United States. The Technical Director serves as the organization’s primary technical authority, ensuring remediation, permitting, and compliance activities meet applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements while supporting project execution, risk management, regulatory engagement, and continuous improvement of technical standards and best practices.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience in environmental remediation, regulatory compliance, or related technical leadership roles
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex remediation projects and working directly with federal and state regulatory agencies
  • Comprehensive knowledge of remediation technologies, site characterization methods, and risk assessment frameworks
  • Strong understanding of federal and state environmental regulations and permitting processes
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical information to diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated leadership capability and experience supporting multidisciplinary teams
  • Travel: Must be able and willing to travel domestically and internationally as required to support project sites, regulatory meetings, and client engagements
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university required

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or PhD in a related environmental or engineering discipline
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) license
  • Experience serving as a recognized technical authority or subject matter expert within a consulting or regulated industry environment

Responsibilities

  • Direct the development, evaluation, and implementation of remediation strategies for complex soil, groundwater, sediment, and vapor intrusion sites
  • Oversee preparation and technical review of conceptual site models, feasibility studies, remedial action plans, and design documents
  • Provide expert guidance on the selection, optimization, and application of conventional, innovative, and emerging remediation technologies
  • Lead technical risk assessments, including human health and ecological risk evaluations, and develop mitigation strategies
  • Establish, maintain, and enforce technical standards, QA/QC procedures, and risk management frameworks
  • Oversee environmental permitting and compliance activities under federal, state, and local programs including CERCLA, RCRA, CWA, CAA, and applicable state cleanup programs
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison with regulatory agencies and represent the company in negotiations, technical meetings, and regulatory reviews
  • Monitor regulatory developments and advise senior leadership on compliance strategies and business impacts
  • Provide mentorship, training, and technical oversight to multidisciplinary project teams
  • Support business development through proposal preparation, technical reviews, and client presentations
  • Represent the company at professional conferences, industry forums, and technical working groups
  • In addition to the accountabilities above, other responsibilities, tasks, and deliverables may be assigned to the incumbent of this position
