SageWaterAlexandria, VA
22d$150,000 - $250,000

About The Position

We are looking for a strategic Director of Sales to join our SageWater Pre-Construction team! We’re growing, and we’re looking for more great people to help us continue to grow! ABOUT US: Founded in 1988 and headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, SageWater is the nation’s leading specialty contractor for turnkey plumbing and mechanical infrastructure solutions in multifamily condominium and apartment communities. With over 135,000 occupied units repiped nationwide, we deliver innovative, resident-friendly repiping and renewal services that protect property values and minimize disruptions—all while residents stay in their homes. As a private equity-backed company experiencing sustained growth, we're expanding our impact in the multi-family sector—scaling toward larger, more complex projects—and seeking a strategic sales leader to drive our next phase. About THIS OPPORTUNITY: Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Pre-Construction, the Director of Sales will lead our U.S. mainland sales organization as a working manager and team leader. This hands-on role requires personally driving a significant portion of sales while leading a small team of senior sales professionals (currently two direct reports). The team is targeted to achieve approximately $50M in sales for 2026, with the Director expected to personally contribute 35–45% of that total through active selling, deal leadership, and pipeline development. You'll foster a culture of consultative selling, technical solution expertise, and high-performance execution while leveraging technology and data to target opportunities effectively. (This job posting is not intended as a complete list of activities, duties, or responsibilities for this position.)

Requirements

  • 7+ years of B2B sales experience in construction, building services, plumbing/repiping, or related industries; at least 3 years in a sales leadership role.
  • Proven personal track record as a top-performing individual contributor in complex, long-cycle projects, combined with experience leading small teams.
  • Demonstrated success winning high-value projects in multi-unit residential or commercial properties, including deals requiring multi-stakeholder approvals (e.g., boards, owners, property managers), group decision-making, and tailored technical solutions.
  • Strong consultative selling skills, including needs assessment, value proposition development (e.g., ROI calculations, minimal disruption), and handling objections in group settings.
  • Technical aptitude with knowledge of repiping materials, systems, building codes, and infrastructure challenges; ability to communicate technical details accessibly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with RFP/bid processes, contract negotiation, proposal development (including visuals and case studies), and navigating phased implementations or financing options.
  • Strong leadership skills with a hands-on, player-coach approach; ability to develop teams through coaching and training while carrying a personal quota.
  • Proficiency in CRM platforms, sales analytics, and modern tools (including AI for prospecting and lead qualification).
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Financial acumen, organizational skills, and a positive, adaptable mindset.
  • Willingness and ability to travel nationally up to 30% of the time, including overnights, to support client meetings, team leadership, and business development.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; direct experience in plumbing systems, multi-unit residential sales, or regional infrastructure trends a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a national sales strategy focused on multi-family repiping and mechanical infrastructure projects, identifying emerging markets and scaling wins in larger, more complex deals involving multiple stakeholders and technical specifications.
  • Personally lead high-value prospecting, relationship-building, proposal development, negotiations, and closings to deliver 35–45% of the team's annual sales target.
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing sales team; assess current skills and implement targeted training in key areas such as consultative selling, technical product knowledge (e.g., piping materials and systems), complex negotiations, multi-stakeholder management, and solution design for diverse project needs.
  • Cultivate and expand relationships with key decision-makers, including property management firms, real estate investment groups, HOAs, boards, engineers, and contractors.
  • Oversee the full sales cycle for high-value opportunities, from AI-driven prospect identification and market analysis to RFP/bid responses, customized proposals, and contract closing.
  • Collaborate closely with estimating, pre-construction, marketing, and operations teams to align offerings, enhance win rates, and ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Set targets, forecast revenue, monitor KPIs, and report progress to executive leadership.
  • Contribute to long-term growth planning, including input on marketing materials, vendor partnerships, and operational efficiencies.
