General Summary The Respiratory Director is a professional caregiver who assumes accountability and responsibility for the respiratory functions, to include pulmonary functions testing and respiratory care. The Respiratory Director acts as a liaison between laboratory staff and physicians, other departments, administration and hospital patients, guests and the community. Requirements

  • Associates degree from a CoARC accredited school of Respiratory Therapy required.
  • Minimum of three (5) years of respiratory experience required with at least (3) years of Supervisory/leadership experience preferred.
  • Licensed by the state of Missouri as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • Considerable mental concentration required for long periods of time.
  • Standing, walking, sitting and lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • Frequent exposure to infectious disease and hostile persons at times.
  • Frequent exposure to communicable disease via blood and other body fluids.
  • Minimal physical discomfort.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors in Respiratory preferred.
  • Active certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Continued analysis of current market trends and government reimbursement changes and makes recommendations to Administrative representative for strategic planning and vision.
  • Sets challenging and productive goals for team, keeps team accountable for actions, provides leadership and motivation, provides resources and support, uses checkpoints and data to track progress, sets up systems and processes to measure results.
  • Defines roles and responsibilities, motivates and challenges employees, delegates effectively, rewards contributions, manages collaboratively.
  • Ensures the department meets or exceeds all Joint Commission, state, federal, and specialty licensing/ accreditation standards.
  • Assumes the role as a leader in planning, directing, and managing departments and staff to assure quality service on a 24/7 basis.
  • Promotes teamwork with physicians and all healthcare providers.
  • Promotes internal and external customer satisfaction and or appropriate resource management.
  • Assess and improves departments’ performance and maintains appropriate quality improvement/control programs on a continual basis.
  • Implements strategies necessary to achieve department goals and observe quality outcomes.
  • Plans for and uses resources efficiently, always looking for ways to reduce costs, creates accurate and realistic budgets, tracks and adjusts budgets, contributes to budget planning.
  • Ensures an adequate number and skill mix of staff to accomplish department functions.
  • Coordinates new employee orientation and ensures competency through skill validation.
  • Coaches staff to maximize work performance.
  • Counsels staff as appropriate in a timely manner and submits documentation.
  • Communicates to physicians and appropriate team members pertinent patient information in order to improve patient outcomes and quality care.
  • Interacts appropriately with team members while maintaining an atmosphere fostering team work and accountability.
  • Incorporates critical thinking into his/her clinical practice and attempts to develop skills and abilities through continued education and various educational opportunities.
  • Adjusts staffing levels appropriately for work load to meet Premier productivity benchmarks.
  • Works in conjunction with Patient Financial Services to perform an annual review of departmental chargemaster so that charging and billing codes are appropriate.
