This position is open only to City of New York employees serving in the permanent civil service title of Administrative Staff Analyst The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the world's busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Department's main goal is to provide fire protection, emergency medical care, and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. FDNY members are sworn to serve and protect life and property, and the Department works to continually educate the public in fire, life safety and disaster preparedness, along with enforcing public safety codes. Since its inception in 1865, FDNY has helped lead efforts to make New York the safest big city in the nation. This accomplishment requires a steadfast and daily commitment to maintaining the Department's core values. The Director of Radio Shop Administration will report directly to the Executive Director of Radio Repair Operations and work in coordination with other Radio Repair administrative, managerial, technical, and clerical personnel. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities associated with the operations of the Radio Repair Unit, including oversight of asset management, procurement, stock control, logistics and daily repair/maintenance, database management, and administration of technical support work. Oversees scheduling, staffing and workload management. Handles shop work intake, order management and overall workflow, efficiency and quality. The manager will be responsible for the full lifecycle of ordering, shipping, receiving, and inventory management, fiscal management, requirements contracts, and purchase orders, ensuring that all processes are efficient, cost-effective, and aligned with departmental and citywide standards. This role includes direct supervision of stock workers and a technical writer, providing leadership and guidance to ensure accuracy, accountability, and workflow efficiency across the unit and various databases. The Director would interact with and be the point of contact for Fleet & agencies operating for & with the FDNY. Duties, not limited to, will be documentation and blue printing of ALL RF electronic systems, radio, MDT, GPS etc. installations following best practices, industry standards, fleet requirements and industry certifications, R56. Motorola certification, FM & UL test equipment validations.
