About The Position

The Director of Projects is responsible for the delivery of all phases of the company’s projects (Development, Execution and After Action Review), as well as the implementing actions for continuous improvement in the project lifecycle. The Director of Projects utilizes the resources directly reporting to them, other internal resources, and external contract resources, as required, to schedule and deliver project requirements. Depending on the volume of activity and complexity of the projects, the Director of Projects will identify the necessary additional resources to support the project planning and execution needs. The role will be required to interface with different departments across the company to ensure that each project is planned according to company requirements, operational considerations, and vessel contract agreements. Ultimately, the quality of the project and its deliverables are the responsibility of the Director of Projects.

  • Documentation management (e.g. creating and maintaining filing of project documentation) and ability to use project management tools (e.g. scheduling, budget management, daily/weekly reporting)
  • Proven success working with all levels of management
  • Working knowledge in MS Office, AutoCAD, and Adobe.
  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate is required. BA/BS degree or equivalent work experience is preferred.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in a relevant field. Knowledge of ship construction, shipboard systems, equipment, and their operation is required
  • Must have five (5) years of experience managing a team of people
  • Should be able to lift to 20 pounds
  • There will be travel required both nationally and internationally
  • The individual will be required to be in production areas in Shipyards and onboard ships.
  • Must be able to walk to and from job sites.
  • The person must be able to climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders, enter confined areas and tanks, and work at heights.

Responsibilities

  • Defines requirements, sets objectives, and assists with the creation of project scope and budget developments. Reviews client requests and project scope for feasibility. Collaborates with Operations, Technical Services, Business Development, Project teams and external vendors and service providers, as required, to ensure the proposed work is developed and executed in accordance with internal and external guidelines.
  • Oversee project completion status and reporting against contract requirements. Reporting progress and status should be timely and consistent among all projects and making adjustments needed for customers. Mentors the project team to support the accuracy and quality of the schedule tracking and reporting.
  • Monitors the implementation and execution of tracking mechanisms for project work scopes commitments and forecasted spend against project budgets. Mentors and actively supports project team members as required to ensure frequent and accurate updates.
  • Creates and distributes regular, periodic reports on the different projects in development, execution or after action review that cover the current project statuses, risks, success, and forecasts to completion to senior management.
  • Negotiates contracts and changes within approved limit with vendors and shipyards. Works with executive leadership on major contracts to effectively manage risk, costs, and exposure to the company across all projects.
  • Support the resolution of daily issues with vendors, project staff, and management ensuring a maximum level of service is offered and maintained.
  • Interfaces closely with Vessel Management and Port Engineers for technical and operational engineering insight. Incorporating their operational requirements into project scopes and execution.
  • Ensures all HSE requirements are met for projects and works to develop bridging documents, as required, with Operations, customers, shipyards, and port facilities.
  • Interface with customers as requested by VP of Technical Services in all phases of project management.
  • Assist in early phases of project development, estimation, and feasibility for the acquisition of subsea construction and support vessels and refits.
  • Provide on-site leadership for project team by coaching, mentoring, building and motivating team members to meet project goals and project milestones.
  • Evaluate, develop and mentor Project Managers, Project Engineers and Project Administrators that work within the Projects group.
  • Identify and propose external resources to support projects, as required. Monitor and evaluate these resources for compliance and effectiveness at project work for Stabber Maritime. Foster relationships with longer term contracted resources to build a contingent talent pool that can support company projects.
  • Participates in developing standard practices, templates, policies, tools, and partnerships to expand the capabilities for the organization.
  • Leads after-action/lessons learned upon completion of projects. Champions the continuous improvement actions from project to project helping improve the company processes and tools.
  • Consult or negotiate, as requested by VP Technical Services, with clients to prepare project specifications.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by VP Technical Services.
  • Fosters unity between Project Teams, SMI (Stabbert owned shipyard teams), and Operations. Creating a team culture of joint support.
