Director of Product

Bonusly

About The Position

Bonusly is on a mission to make work better. We believe recognition, motivation, and belonging aren't nice-to-haves — they're business-critical. With our roots as the market leader in employee recognition, we're evolving into a performance enablement platform that supports how teams work, grow, and thrive. As we scale across three business units, we're looking for a product builder who brings the product lens to a highly collaborative, product-minded design and engineering team and helps us turn organizational data into strategic insights. Why this role matters You'll lead the Insights Business Unit — the observability layer where we're placing one of our biggest bets: creating insights from our data that have organizational strategic relevance. Beyond data and analytics, the Insights BU owns the HR and Leadership audience — things like HRIS integrations, awards, incentives, and how HR approaches performance. We're building AI-powered products that turn recognition patterns into strategic insights. This team experiments with generative UIs, AI-assisted analysis, and new ways of surfacing organizational intelligence. The world is changing fast, and we need someone already reinventing what product work looks like. This isn't about managing a department or owning a team. It's about being a connective force in a matrixed organization — working across functional leaders (design, engineering, marketing) and alongside two other product leaders in a flat structure we call the Bonusly Leadership Team (BLT). You'll thrive here if you check your ego and care more about what ships than who owns it.

Requirements

  • Have 8+ years product experience in B2B SaaS, with deep comfort in data, analytics, or insights-driven products
  • Have broad knowledge across multiple domains (product, data, strategy, maybe design or engineering) with surprising depth in 2-3 areas
  • Love building things more than managing people — you get energy from building alongside designers and engineers, not from hierarchy
  • Balance courage and conviction with an openness to others’ ideas. You enjoy an environment of ideation, debate, real-time collab, feedback and iteration.
  • Are excited about how product work is evolving — you're curious about what AI tools and emerging capabilities make possible, and you experiment how product, design and engineering is working together
  • Are a product thinker who respects craft — you bring clarity on "what" and "why" while appreciating the strategic impact of great design and engineering
  • Have strong analytical instincts — comfortable with data modeling, SaaS metrics, translating usage patterns into product decisions
  • Communicate with clarity — distill complexity, tell stories with data, no jargon
  • Thrive for alignment over autonomy, bringing a collaborative not a territorial mentality
  • Value hard work and hold high standards while honoring healthy work-life balance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in HR tech or deep interest in the future of work
  • Shipped AI-powered products (not just prototypes) — built and launched products using LLMs, generative capabilities, or AI-assisted workflows
  • Familiarity with data visualization, BI tools, or analytics platforms
  • Track record of 0-1 product work or launching new products from scratch

Responsibilities

  • Own product vision and strategy for the Insights BU — what we build, why it matters, how it serves HR leaders making strategic decisions
  • Be a product builder first — prototype in Figma, write prompts for AI, pair with engineers on implementation, test with real users, ship and iterate
  • Build AI-powered products that turn recognition patterns into strategic insights — experiment with generative UIs, prompt engineering, AI-assisted analysis; reinvent what product work means in real-time
  • Translate data into strategic narratives — help organizations understand team health, engagement, and performance drivers
  • Drive cross-BU alignment — coordinate with other product leaders on shared surfaces and platform decisions
  • Partner with a product-minded design and engineering team — add the product lens to senior designers and engineers who already think strategically
  • Deeply understand the HR/Leadership audience — research how they work, what they need, what frustrates them; use those insights to innovate on everything from recognition programs to how organizations approach performance
  • Move fluidly between strategy and execution — zoom out for business opportunity, zoom in to debug a data model or refine an insight
  • Champion simplicity — apply common sense, move fast, resist creating process for the sake of process
