About The Position

The Director of Philanthropy is responsible for modeling the Compassus values of Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Innovation and for promoting the Compassus philosophy, using the 6 Pillars of Success as the foundation. S/he is responsible for upholding the Code of Ethical Conduct and for promoting positive working relationships within the company, among all departments, and all external stakeholders. The Director of Philanthropy leads fundraising and donor engagement efforts. This leader will play a critical role in expanding the Foundation's impact by cultivating a diverse community of supporters, developing inclusive partnerships, and securing the resources necessary to advance our mission. This role requires both big-picture strategy and hands-on execution, as well as a deep respect for the communities we serve.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit fundraising or related fields
  • Demonstrated success securing major gifts, managing campaigns, and building donor networks
  • Deep understanding of donor stewardship, prospect research, and inclusive engagement strategies
  • Passion for hospice, palliative care, and/or equitable health access
  • Strong commitment to anti-racism, equity, and inclusion in philanthropy
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across diverse audiences
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from leaders, team members, investors, and external parties.
  • Strong written and verbal communications.
  • Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English.
  • Articulates and embraces integrated healthcare at home philosophy.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive philanthropic strategy aligned with organizational goals and values
  • Identify, cultivate, and steward a diverse portfolio of donors, including individuals, foundations, and corporate partners
  • Design and lead inclusive campaigns that reflect the values of access, dignity, and equity in end-of-life care
  • Build authentic, long-term relationships with donors from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Develop compelling, equity-centered cases for support and impact communications
  • Partner with the communications team to ensure storytelling and messaging reflect diverse voices and lived experiences
  • Supervise and mentor philanthropy staff with a commitment to inclusive leadership and team development
  • Collaborate across departments to align fundraising with program impact and equity goals
  • Support the Board and volunteer leaders in their philanthropic engagement, offering inclusive tools and resources
  • Oversee donor database and ensure culturally sensitive donor segmentation and analytics
  • Set and track progress toward fundraising goals, providing regular reports to leadership and the board
