Job Summary The Pharmacy Director is responsible for leading the strategic, operational, and clinical functions of the pharmacy department, ensuring optimal medication management and regulatory compliance This role oversees clinical pharmacy services, financial management, staff development, and quality assurance initiatives, aligning departmental goals with the hospital’s mission The Pharmacy Director collaborates with senior leadership, medical staff, and other departments to enhance patient care, implement evidence-based practices, and ensure the safe and effective use of medications across the healthcare system

Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of pharmacotherapy, medication safety, and regulatory standards
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to manage budgets and analyze financial data
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively manage and resolve complex clinical, operational, and personnel issues
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and pharmacy information systems
  • Demonstrates commitment to continuous learning and professional development
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited School of Pharmacy required
  • Active and unrestricted Pharmacist license in the state of practice required
  • Certification as a Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) as required by state regulations required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of clinical pharmacy experience, with at least 5 years in a management or leadership role required

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), Healthcare Administration (MHA), or a related field preferred
  • Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy (BCPS) or Pharmacy Administration preferred
  • Experience in financial management, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement initiatives preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures to ensure safe and effective medication management
  • Provide strategic leadership in planning, organizing, and directing pharmacy services to align with the hospital’s mission and goals
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including TJC, CMS, DEA, and FDA guidelines
  • Oversee clinical pharmacy programs, including antimicrobial stewardship, medication reconciliation, and clinical consults
  • Develop and manage the pharmacy budget, monitor financial performance, and implement cost-saving initiatives
  • Manage pharmacy staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives related to medication safety, formulary management, and clinical outcomes
  • Collaborate with medical staff to implement clinical protocols and evidence-based practices
  • Ensure accurate preparation and dispensing of medications, including compounding and sterile preparations
  • Represent the pharmacy department in executive meetings and interdisciplinary committees
  • Coordinate the implementation of pharmacy information systems and automation to enhance workflow efficiency
