About The Position

Over the last five years, attacks on our democracy have intensified. Deliberate barriers to voting, intimidation of election workers, and the erosion of public confidence in our elections have become central tactics in a sustained attempt to seize–and hold onto–power. In the face of these relentless attacks, All Voting is Local and its affiliate organization, All Voting is Local Action, are leaders in the nonpartisan fight to protect our democracy by expanding access to the ballot at the state and local level. We seek a dynamic and insightful leader to lead the strategy, planning, and execution on identifying, attracting, engaging, and retaining talent at All Voting is Local as we strive to meet this moment and fulfill our mission. The Director of People will provide thought leadership, serve as a trusted advisor and business partner, and–through their subject matter expertise–ensure that all People practices, policies, systems, tools, and resources are in alignment with All Voting is Local’s values and prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Director of People is passionate about expanding voting rights and deeply understands how the words we choose, the audiences we reach, and the campaigns we amplify all contribute to that goal. In partnership with the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of People will lead the strategy, planning, and execution on identifying, attracting, engaging, and retaining talent at All Voting is Local. All Voting is Local became an independent organization in 2022 with over 50 full-time employees. The All Voting is Local team is primarily remote and distributed with employees across the United States. The Director of People must be based in the U.S. and will report to the Chief Operating Officer.

Requirements

• 8+ years of People experience with a minimum of 3+ years Generalist experience; and business partner experience, leading, planning, and driving People strategy, project management, execution, and talent relations.
• Comprehensive knowledge and experience in talent relations, staying abreast of emerging and new employment laws, and People compliance with an ability to integrate applicable requirements effectively and in a timely manner.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to identify, initiate, and nurture internal and external relationships across all levels.
• Exceptional ability to maintain confidentiality and objectivity, practice sound judgment, build and foster trust.
• Outstanding communication and coaching skills (written and verbal) with the ability to listen to understand, positively influence, and use good judgment.
• Outstanding facilitation and negotiation skills with the ability to engage all levels of the organization.
• Strong project management skills with an ability to map out a project from beginning to end, effectively manage stakeholders’ expectations, harmoniously drive toward completion, and ensure project objectives are met.
• Strong business acumen with the ability to effectively practice critical thinking to research, leverage, and synthesize macro events and activities to enhance and strengthen People policies, practices, programs, systems, tools, and resources.
• Strong initiative and solutions-oriented -- comfortable working with ambiguity, is resourceful, and creatively finds solutions and partnerships to meet the needs and challenges of the tasks at hand.
• Operationally savvy -- enjoys and is comfortable designing, building, rolling out, and facilitating training around new and existing People policies, practices, programs, systems, tools and resources.

Responsibilities

• Define, establish, plan, and execute All Voting is Local’s People strategy over the short and long-term and be the go to resource for All Voting is Local’s employees, on all matters related to People.
• Partner closely with All Voting is Local’s Leadership Team (LT) to shape, plan, and execute on organizational design and structure.
• Partner closely with All Voting is Local's leadership team to ensure that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) objectives are integrated across all People policies, practices, programs, systems, tools, and resources.
• Leverage resources and partners to understand, assess, enhance, and continually audit and iterate Organization’s People policies, practices, programs, systems, tools, and resources to ensure that they meet federal, state, and local requirements, remain relevant, and innovative in order to effectively identify, attract, engage, develop, and retain talent. This includes but is not limited to: Benefits Change Management Compensation Philosophy Compliance Employee Relations Strategy HRIS Platform Mastery Performance Management Leadership and Team Development Learning and Development Risk Management Succession Planning Talent Acquisition Talent Experience (e.g. orientation, onboarding) Total Rewards Workforce Planning & Analytics
• Identify areas of opportunities, propose, plan, and execute on these ideas to continually strengthen All Voting is Local’s culture and be an employer of choice.
• Stay abreast of new and emerging employment laws and People compliance and ensure the timely integration of applicable requirements as appropriate.
• Facilitate People meetings, events, and programming.
• Lead, drive, and bring to successful conclusion all People initiatives, projects, and events.
• Utilize HR data and people analytics to inform decision-making, identify trends, and drive decisions around strategic workforce planning.
• Develop KPIs for the People department.
• Act as a change champion by supporting and facilitating successful adoption of organizational initiatives, transformations, and change management processes.
• Oversee the evaluation, implementation, and continuous improvement of HR technologies (currently Paychex and Jazz HR) to streamline operations and enhance the employee experience.
• Develop and manage a competitive and equitable compensation and total rewards philosophy aligned with organizational goals and values.
• Build and deliver training programs to develop leadership and managerial capability across the organization.
• Design and implement succession planning strategies to ensure leadership continuity and organizational resilience.
• Support the COO in the management of the People function’s budget; liaise with vendors.
• Partner with legal on complex employee issues, investigations, and/or compliance audits.
