About The Position

The Director of People & Culture will work in conjunction with the senior management team to implement the “people” strategies of dynamic and mission-focused team of more than 80+ members. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the HR department and the operational effectiveness of 2 office locations (Santa Ana & Riverside). This position is also responsible for implementation and management of our retention and leadership development strategies. As a key role to the organization, this position provides on-site direction, resources, coaching, and resources to the team. This position will embody BBBS culture and must be its biggest advocate and ambassador—both internally and externally. The Director of People & Culture will report to the CEO and is a member of the executive team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's highly preferred
  • At least 3+ years in HR administration required
  • At least 3+ years in Talent Acquisition required
  • Experience in Leadership Development highly preferred
  • High-level of customer service
  • Highly proficient in Windows XP software and Google Suite applications
  • Must have access to a reliable automobile with valid Driver's License and Auto Insurance
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills reflecting excellent customer service both in-person via the telephone
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Maintains high confidentiality throughout daily operations
  • Excellent attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team, providing thought leadership on people strategy, workforce development, and HR alignment with BBBS's mission.
  • Partner with department leaders to integrate HR strategies with broader organizational goals, driving talent management and productivity.
  • Collaborate closely with leaders and managers to provide expert HR guidance and support with conflict resolution and leadership development.
  • Occasionally support off-site events that promote the agency within the community
  • Architect and lead BBBS's People function including recruiting, onboarding, training, culture, performance, and People Ops
  • Design and implement strategies to attract and onboard top talent across the agency, ensuring quality hiring and cultural alignment
  • Collaborate with leaders to create engaging onboarding experiences that support retention
  • Develop leadership development programs and succession plans to strengthen internal talent pipelines, ensuring continuity and growth
  • Maintain deep knowledge of CA employment laws, payroll legal requirements, Federal regulations, mitigating legal risks and ensuring compliance
  • Develop all HR policies to comply with agency regulations, CA labor laws and Federal requirements, maintaining regulatory standards
  • Foster a positive, people-first culture through initiatives that embody BBBS's mission enhancing its reputation as an employer of choice
  • Implement employee engagement strategies to strengthen morale, align with company values, and promote organizational growth and scalability.
  • Lead, mentor, and coach HR team members, providing guidance, support, and development opportunities
  • Set and monitor KPIs with department leaders and COO that align with operational goals and budgets, ensuring continuous adherence to regulatory requirements
  • Develop compensation frameworks, leveling guides, performance systems, career ladders, and manager enablement.
  • Direct and design the performance management system that drives accountability and supports continuous growth, aligned with organizational goals
