About The Position

The Director of Operations is responsible for the oversight of all aspects of the harbor and ice rink operations, providing direct supervision of the Marina Managers for each of the harbor and ice rink locations. The Director of Operations is involved with varying operations roles from training and budgetary direction to Marina Managers at the harbors and ice rinks. This individual supports the Marina Managers in improving the harbors’ and ice rinks’ guest services, performance, efficiency, and profitability. The Director of Operations is responsible for driving results and maximizing the business potential and success of the harbors and ice rinks, working collaboratively with the Regional Director, the Chicago Park District and other relevant government agencies, and the Marina Managers at each harbor and ice rink location. The Director of Operations also assists in training and coaching, and assists the Regional Director in other functions, oftentimes taking the lead in the development of team members at the harbor and ice rink locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferred
  • 5-8 years of multi-unit management experience required
  • 7-10 years of supervisory experience required
  • Business partner with developed business acumen and a strategic mindset with an ability to formulate creative solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and high level of computer proficiency
  • Must have a basic knowledge of hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, gasoline and diesel mechanic systems, and waste pump systems both vacuum and centrifugal types
  • Must have knowledge of underwater salvage principles and procedures
  • Must have a basic understanding of chain anchoring systems, spud pile systems, and pile anchoring systems throughout the harbors
  • Must be able to independently lift, carry, push, and pull up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Must be able to swim or willing to wear a personal floatation device when visiting harbor locations
  • Must be willing to work weekends and holidays as business operations necessitate and available for emergency assistance as required
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and must be able to pass a background check and motor vehicle

Responsibilities

  • Administer regular safety training in conjunction with the Senior Director of Safety and Compliance
  • Oversee the purchasing process for major equipment and materials needed for all repairs and maintenance of both harbors and ice rinks as well as all supplies needed for the day-to-day operations of all properties
  • Ensure the proper controls for safeguarding harbor and ice rink assets including but not limited to equipment and inventory, performing routine inspections and notifying the Facilities Manager and Work Crew team of any emergency maintenance needs
  • Organizes, oversees, and troubleshoots all aspects of the harbors and ice rinks
  • Establish operating plans, goals, and targets and work with the Regional Director to execute
  • Review ongoing performance against plan and provide ongoing coaching to support plan achievement
  • Provide leadership and direction to all assigned Marina Managers at the harbor and ice rink locations to ensure all harbors and ice rinks achieve goals and objectives for gross revenue, gross operating profit, guest satisfaction, and team member engagement
