About The Position

The Director of Operations provides strategic and operational leadership for a large, multi-location orthopedic private practice consisting of 48 physicians/surgeons and 12 clinical locations across the Houston area. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, driving operational efficiency, ensuring exceptional patient experience, and supporting clinical and financial performance. The Director of Operations partners closely with physician leadership and executive management to align operational strategy with the practice’s mission, growth objectives, and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets and performance metrics.
  • Expertise in workflow optimization, staffing models, and patient access strategies.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations, compliance, and accreditation standards.
  • Data-driven decision maker with experience using KPIs and operational dashboards.
  • Ability to travel occasionally between practice locations throughout the Houston area.
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed to support operational demands.
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive healthcare operations leadership experience.
  • Proven experience managing multi-site healthcare operations and large provider groups.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Strongly preferred experience in orthopedic, surgical, or multi-specialty physician practice management.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations across all clinical and ancillary service locations, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Develop, implement, and optimize operational policies, procedures, and workflows to support high-volume orthopedic care.
  • Serve as a key liaison between physicians, clinic leadership, and administrative teams.
  • Lead operational planning for practice growth, including new providers, service lines, and locations.
  • Provide leadership to Clinic managers, supervisors, and department heads across all locations.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels, productivity, and performance management across clinical and administrative teams.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention of operational and management staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with finance and executive leadership to manage budgets, labor costs, and operational expenses.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including patient volume, access, throughput, utilization, and patient satisfaction.
  • Support cost-containment initiatives without compromising quality of care.
  • Ensure a consistently high-quality patient experience across all locations.
  • Address patient access, scheduling efficiency, clinic flow, and service recovery processes.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and compliance with clinical standards of care.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory, accreditation, and safety requirements (HIPAA, OSHA, CMS, etc.).
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning and long-term growth initiatives.
  • Lead operational integration of new physicians, service lines, or acquisitions.
  • Evaluate and implement technology, systems, and process improvements to enhance scalability.
  • Support physician alignment and operational readiness for value-based care and evolving reimbursement models.
