Director of Operations

SleepRes, Inc.San Francisco, CA

About The Position

SleepRes is seeking a hands‑on Director of Operations to design, launch, and scale our end‑to-end operational infrastructure as we transition from development to commercial launch. This role is critical to ensuring contract manufacturing readiness, supply chain reliability, logistics execution, and post‑market support. Reporting directly to the CEO, this leader will own and manage global contract manufacturing partners, establish U.S.‑based fulfillment and distribution capabilities, and design scalable processes for warranty, repair, and returns supporting DME partners. This is a builder‑stage role—ideal for an operator who thrives in ambiguity, has personally stood up operational systems, and understands how to balance startup urgency with medical device quality, regulatory compliance, and cost discipline. Startup Context: This role is intended for candidates with experience building or scaling operations in early‑ or growth‑stage companies. Candidates whose experience is limited to fully scaled, large‑enterprise environments without hands-on ownership may not be a fit.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in operations, supply chain, or manufacturing leadership.
  • Hands‑on experience managing contract manufacturers (not in‑house manufacturing).
  • Experience operating in a regulated hardware or medical device environment.
  • Working knowledge of FDA QSR and ISO 13485 requirements.
  • Experience standing up or managing U.S.‑based fulfillment, 3PL, or logistics operations.
  • Ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels, including direct execution.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct NetSuite ERP implementation or operational ownership experience, particularly for inventory, manufacturing, supply chain, and order-to-cash workflows.
  • Prior Class II medical device commercialization or launch experience.
  • Experience working with Asia‑based contract manufacturers.
  • Experience scaling operations from pre‑launch to early commercial revenue.
  • Hands-on NetSuite ERP experience supporting manufacturing, supply chain, inventory, and fulfillment operations is strongly preferred; experience with other ERPs (SAP, Oracle, Odoo) is a secondary consideration.
  • Background in engineering, operations, or supply chain management.

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage relationships with overseas contract manufacturers (CMs), including production planning, quality performance, cost management, and on‑time delivery.
  • Partner with Quality and Engineering to ensure CM processes comply with FDA QSR, ISO 13485, and internal quality standards.
  • Oversee BOM management, costed BOMs, and COGS optimization as volumes scale.
  • Develop supply‑chain risk mitigation strategies, including safety stock, alternate sourcing, and contingency planning.
  • Lead demand planning, forecasting, and production scheduling in coordination with commercial forecasts.
  • Select, contract, and launch a U.S.‑based third‑party logistics (3PL) partner to support national distribution.
  • Design and implement inbound, outbound, and reverse logistics processes aligned with DME partner requirements.
  • Establish KPIs for fulfillment accuracy, shipping SLAs, inventory accuracy, and inventory turns.
  • Ensure systems integration between NetSuite ERP, 3PL platforms, and ordering workflows.
  • Design and implement scalable warranty, repair, and returns (RMA) processes for products returned from DME partners.
  • Define triage, refurbishment, repair, replacement, and disposition workflows.
  • Partner with Quality to ensure complaint handling, CAPA, NCR/NCMR, and post‑market surveillance requirements are met.
  • Establish warranty policies, turnaround‑time targets, and cost controls.
  • Build and execute the operations roadmap from commercial launch through early scale.
  • Establish SOPs, metrics, dashboards, and executive‑level reporting across operations.
  • Lead cross‑functional initiatives across Quality, Regulatory, Engineering, Finance, Commercial, and Customer Support—often without formal authority.
  • Support launch readiness planning, inventory strategy, and working‑capital optimization.
  • Serve as a trusted operational advisor to the CEO and executive leadership team.

Benefits

  • Play a foundational role in launching a novel sleep‑therapy platform.
  • Direct impact on patient outcomes and company success.
  • High visibility and partnership with the CEO and leadership team.
  • Competitive compensation, equity participation, and long‑term growth opportunity.
