About The Position

The primary purpose of your job position is to plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of our Nursing Services Department in accordance with current Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator and the Medical Director, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is always maintained.

Requirements

  • Must possess, as a minimum, a nursing degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Must have a minimum of two years’ experience as a supervisor or Director of Nursing in a long-term care facility, or related health care facility.
  • Must have a valid and current R.N. License for the state of Florida.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long term care.
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives etc. that are necessary for providing quality care.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Must be able to relate to, and work with, the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and update annually, or as required, written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing department.
  • Recruit, train, evaluate, counsel, and terminate nursing personnel as required, maintaining appropriate supportive documentation.
  • Develop, direct, and evaluate an ongoing Quality Assurance Program for the Nursing Department that will support the overall Health Center goal of maintaining a superior rated facility.
  • Make routine rounds of nursing units to ensure that all nursing personnel are performing their duties in accordance with acceptable nursing standards.
  • Attend and participate in continuing education programs to ensure continued professional development and knowledge of the latest governmental rules and regulations.
  • Identify residents who qualify for Medicare coverage by developing an understanding of Medicare requirements relative to the skilled nursing facility.
  • Assist the administrator in the development and monthly review of the nursing section of the Health Center Budget.
  • Oversee the operation of the Wellness Clinic ensuring satisfactory performance of the Clinic Manager.
  • Develop work assignments and schedule duty hours to ensure that nursing care is provided to meet the daily needs of each resident.
  • Perform administrative duties such as completion of medical and governmental reports and required documents, payroll, and serving on committees as required.
  • Direct, develop, and review preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the nursing needs of each resident.
  • Coordinate and participate in the development of each resident's written interdisciplinary plan of care.
  • Develop and implement procedures for the safe operation of all nursing service equipment.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
