About The Position

We are Harmony Hills Behavioral Health (HHBH), a longstanding residential treatment facility serving adults with primary mental health disorders, in central Florida. We are in Altoona, FL, less than one hour North of Orlando. Our serene, rural setting allows guests to heal away from the stresses of everyday life. We seek an experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to join our team! Our DON ensures that our healthcare facility is safe and meets the needs of patients and their families. They are responsible to ensure that there is adequate staff for the facility and that the staff are well-supported and well-trained to uphold the safety and health of patients. DON will oversee budgeting, staffing, training, and ongoing education. The DON will supervise staff performance and give feedback on an ongoing basis. The DON will enforce local, state, and federal laws in the healthcare facility. The DON serves as the Infection Control Officer and the Wellness Officer for the facility.

Requirements

  • Minimum of (5) years of experience as in a mental health environment.
  • At least 2 years of management experience in a mental health psychiatric treatment setting.
  • Knowledge of legal policies and regulations in the healthcare industry.
  • Unrestricted license from the FL Board of Nursing and a current CPR/AED and Standard First Aid Certification.
  • Able to pass a AHCA level 2 background check.
  • Active RN License (REQUIRED)
  • Ability to Commute: Altoona, FL 32702 (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Background in home health, ER acute care and residential treatment preferred.
  • BSN Degree or Master's in Psychiatric Nursing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead all nursing personnel operations.
  • Act in the capacity of the Infection Control Officer and the Wellness Officer for the facility.
  • Develop short and long-term goals for the entire nursing department.
  • Establish new policies and update existing policies to improve the standard of care for patients.
  • Plan and oversee admission, nursing, and patient care processes.
  • Seek supervision and direction from the Medical Director and Nurse Practitioner when observation of client's medical status renders medical intervention beyond scope of practice or expertise.
  • Transcribe all medication orders given verbally or in writing by the physician or APRN /PA
  • Maintain department budgets and record all expenses.
  • Respond to any nursing-related issues in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with medical staff and other departments to ensure facility efficiency.
  • Oversee all record-keeping processes and ensure all necessary documents are accurate and up to date.
  • Hire and train new nursing staff members.
  • Evaluate staff performance and prepare accurate reports detailing your findings.
  • Protect the privacy of all patient information in accordance with Harmony Hills Behavioral Health’s privacy policies, procedures, and practices, as required by federal and state law, and in accordance with general principle of professionalism as a health care provider. Failure to comply with Company policies and procedures on patient privacy may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
  • May access protected health information (PHI) and other patient information only to the extent that is necessary to complete job duties. The incumbent may only share such information with those who have a need-to-know specific patient information in their possession to complete their job responsibilities related to treatment.
  • Expected to report, without the threat of retaliation, any concerns regarding Company policies and procedures on patient privacy and any observed practices in violation of the policy to management.
  • Required to work on call and be able to demonstrate the ability to handle or route situations while on call.
