The Director of Nursing will oversee Nursing Home operations at Prairie Maison. Why Join Us: Competitive Pay Full-Time Benefits (Health/Dental/Vision) 401k Continued Training The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for providing direction and supervision of nursing services to assure the administration of quality nursing care in relation to resident individual needs and in accordance with established policies and procedures. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. A. Resident Relationships 1. Ensures delivery of compassionate quality care and nursing supervision as evidenced by adequate services and staff coverage on unit, absence of odors, general cleanliness, prevention of pressure wounds and apparent maintenance of optimal resident functions. 2. Participates in all admission decisions, and may visit prospective residents before admission. 3. Collaborates with physicians, consultants, community agencies, and institutions to improve the quality of service and to resolve identified problems. 4. Reviews 24-hour report from every unit daily to monitor and ensure timely, effective responses to significant changes in condition, transfers, discharges, use of restraints, unexplained injuries, falls, behavioral episodes and medications errors. 5. Exercises overall supervision of resident assessments and care plans to be knowledgeable of resident care. 6. Performs rounds to observe care and to interview staff, residents of care & services provided and received. 7. Promotes customer service and hospitality and responds to and adequately resolves complaints or concerns from residents or families about nursing services. 8. Participates in nursing care and works the floor, as needed, and is responsible for the direct handling of any emergency situation which may arise in the nursing department. Includes on-call rotation. 9. Coordinates nursing services with all other departments, including the therapy departments. 10. Follows all policies and procedures in regards to nursing standards and regulations. 11. Serves as part of the facility interdisciplinary team to meet the needs of residents/tenants. B. Employee Relationships 1. Participates in the recruitment and selection of nursing personnel and assures sufficient staff are hired. 2. Evaluates the work performance of all nursing personnel, assists in the determination of wage increases, and implement discipline according to operational policies. 3. Oversee nursing schedules to assure they meet resident needs and regulatory and budgetary standards. 4. Oversees and supervises development and delivery of in-service education to equip nursing staff with sufficient knowledge and skills to provide compassionate, quality care and respect for resident rights. 5. Monitors standards such as staff approach, staff tone, verbal/non-verbal expressions etc. to maintain life enrichment quality and address issues identified. 6. Completes payroll change forms for new hires, terminations, etc. in a timely manner. 7. Monitors time clock punches for accuracy and enters PTO time in the time clock to ensure accurate payrolls. 8. Communicates in an open manner with all team members. 9. Assists in establishment of metrics such as paid hours per resident day and manages to meet the goal. 10. Proactivity develops positive employee relations, incentives, and recognition programs. Promotes teamwork, mutual respect and effective communication. 11. Maintains safety standards. C. Nursing Services 1. Develops, maintains, and implements nursing policies and procedures that conform to current standards of nursing practice, facility philosophy, and operational policies while maintaining compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. 2. Communicates and interprets policies and procedures to nursing staff, and monitors staff practices and implementation. 3. Demonstrates knowledge of and application of Key Clinical Quality Indicators, and proactively monitors and implements systems to achieve resident goals. 4. Monitors the infection control program designed to provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment designed to prevent the development and transmission of disease and infection. 5. Communicate to Administrator the need for any equipment or supplies. 6. Monitors staff for compliance with OSHA mandates and facility policies and workplace safety. Proactively develops procedures and incentives to promote workplace safety and safe work practices. 7. Assist in the preparation of inspection surveys, instructing staff on matters of conduct and disclosure, being interviewed by inspectors, immediate corrections of problems noted by surveyors. Review and reinforces important standards previously cited. 8. Foster family and community support of the nursing program (e. g., through newsletters, networking, activities which bring family members or members of the community into the facility, etc.). 9. Participates in the preparation of the Plan of Correction response to an inspection survey and implements any follow-up required for any nursing allegations. D. Other Nursing Services 1. Seeks input from joining departments on the effectiveness of the nursing department. Consistently seeks new ideas and methods to meet resident's needs. 2. Provides quality feedback to all staff on an ongoing basis regarding their interactions with residents in and out of ADLs. 3. Ability to multistep tasks to ensure completion of all required tasks. 4. Communications with others (courtesy, voice tone, facial expression, gestures) are appropriate at all times and do not cause discord among the staff, families or visitors. 5. Ability to do assigned tasks without the need for strict supervision. E. Other 1. Maintains confidentiality of all information. 2. Completes work within authorized time to assure compliance with facility standards. 3. Demonstrates knowledge of, and supports facility mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior. 4. Serves on committees such as QAPI and develops department specific projects. 5. Attends morning meeting and provides updates for others. 6. Knowledge of policies and procedures for effective infection control practices. 7. Develops and updates departmental policies and procedures. 8. Promotes teamwork by showing dignity and respect to peers, including peers of other departments. 9. Assists in development of the annual budget for the nursing department. 10. Understands all job tasks of the department and can perform them as needed. 11. Assist in other areas as necessary, including but not limited to front desk coverage. COMPETENCIES 1. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY This position in responsible for the supervision of the entire nursing department. WORK ENVIRONMENT This job operates in a health care setting. This role requires regular walking to various locations around the facility. This role also routinely comes into contact with residents/tenants who may have a contagious disease. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must have the ability to travel independently throughout the facility to oversee all department activities. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling and stooping. The employee must frequently lift or move items weighing over 50 pounds. POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK This is a full-time exempt (salaried) position working in a facility that is open 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Rotating shifts, holidays and working during inclement weather will be required. May be required to stay during inclement weather or other emergency situations.
