About The Position

The Director of Nursing (DON) provides leadership and oversight for all clinical services at The Barton House. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, person-centered care while maintaining compliance with state regulations and company standards. The Director of Nursing works closely with the Executive Director and regional leadership to promote clinical excellence, regulatory readiness, and a supportive team culture.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in good standing.
  • Experience in geriatrics, assisted living, memory care, or long-term care strongly preferred.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong clinical assessment, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of dementia care best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Compassion for serving individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in geriatrics, assisted living, memory care, or long-term care strongly preferred.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for all clinical operations within the community.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing and clinical coverage to meet the needs of residents living with dementia.
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate nursing staff.
  • Conduct resident assessments, functional needs evaluations, and care reviews upon admission and as needed.
  • Develop and maintain individualized, person-centered care plans in accordance with state regulations and company policies.
  • Oversee medication management and ensure safe medication administration practices.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding resident wellbeing and any changes in condition.
  • Lead and participate in family care conferences as appropriate.
  • Maintain compliance with state assisted living and dementia care regulations and ensure ongoing survey readiness.
  • Review incident reports, conduct investigations when necessary, and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain adequate clinical supplies and manage clinical operations within budget parameters.
  • Provide staff education and in-service training related to dementia care best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and department leaders to maintain a positive, professional work environment.
  • Provide on-call clinical support as needed.
