About The Position

The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the overall management, leadership, and direction of the nursing department and designated non-clinical departments within the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). The DON ensures safe, high-quality, and cost-effective patient care in alignment with regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and organizational policies. This role oversees clinical and select non-clinical staff, directs patient care activities, manages clinical operations, and collaborates with physicians, anesthesia providers, and leadership to support SCRI’s mission and strategic goals.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive nursing experience , including at least 2 years in a leadership role within perioperative or ambulatory surgery settings.
  • BLS required.
  • ACLS required; if not held at hire, must be obtained within three (3) months of start date.
  • Strong knowledge of AAAHC, Joint Commission, CMS, and state regulations governing ambulatory surgery centers.
  • Demonstrated leadership, team-building, and critical decision-making capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
  • PALS may be required based on the patient population.
  • CNOR, CPAN, and/or CAPA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and supervision to all clinical staff, including Pre-Op, OR, PACU, and Sterile Processing.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to designated non-clinical staff, including but not limited to the Business Office and Materials Management.
  • Ensure all nursing services are delivered in accordance with facility policies and applicable regulatory standards (CMS, AAAHC, Joint Commission, OSHA, HIPAA).
  • Collaborate with the Administrator and Medical Director to develop, implement, and evaluate clinical policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, performance management, and evaluation of nursing, clinical, and non-clinical staff.
  • Monitor clinical performance to ensure compliance with quality assurance, patient safety, and infection control standards.
  • Foster and model compassionate, patient-centered care to achieve excellent patient satisfaction outcomes.
  • Coordinate with surgeons and anesthesia providers to ensure efficient case flow and optimal surgical scheduling.
  • Maintain staff compliance with credentialing, licensure, and continuing education requirements.
  • Lead Quality Improvement (QI) and Performance Improvement (PI) initiatives, including risk management, peer review, and incident reporting.
  • Support development and management of the nursing department budget, ensuring efficient and cost-effective resource utilization.
  • Participate in Governing Body, Medical Executive, and Quality Committee meetings, providing clinical reports and recommendations.
  • Serve as a resource to staff, patients, and families regarding clinical issues and patient care processes.
  • Ensure continuous readiness for all regulatory inspections, accreditation surveys, and compliance audits.
