About The Position

The University of Arkansas - Pulaski Technical College in North Little Rock, Arkansas, is accepting applications for a full-time, 12-month position as the Director of Nursing Programs. This position requires a commitment to leadership and administrative oversight in a dynamic community college setting and the ability to successfully interact and respond to the broad ranging needs of an academically and culturally diverse campus setting. Position Summary: The Director of Nursing Programs manages the instructors and the educational activities of the Nursing Assistant, Medication Assistant, and Practical Nursing programs. The Director of Nursing Programs will be responsible for the applicable accreditation/approval standards per agency regulations and UAPTC’s Policy and Procedures.

Requirements

  • Active, unencumbered registered nursing license for the state of Arkansas
  • Must be able to teach theory or clinical in either morning, evening, or weekend schedules
  • Strong verbal, written, and electronic communication skills
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing
  • Minimum of three (3) years of nursing practice
  • Leadership/Management Experience

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of instructional experience (Classroom or Clinical)
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or Nursing Education

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and monitors faculty activities by conducting faculty evaluations/classroom observations and ensuring continued education compliance for all programs that fall under the nursing umbrella
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees in accordance with the college policies and applicable laws
  • Serves as departmental budget manager
  • Oversees didactic content, laboratory/clinical content, clinical rotations and affiliation agreements
  • Obtains/maintains accreditations/certificates/licenses from state and career placement
  • Designs new or implements changes to courses, degrees, and programs meeting institutional and program assessment and accreditation
  • Develops departmental strategic and operating plans in support of the college’s initiatives
  • Services as a member of the Chair/Program Director’s Cabinet and Advisory Boards
  • Contributes to decision-making on policies and problem-solving
  • Completes all department reports, schedules, and planning documents
  • Participates in communication between all constituents/affiliates, both internal and external
  • Collaborates with college officials in securing and administering grants
  • Responsible for recruiting, orienting and supervising faculty members for the program
  • Develops and maintains a resource of qualified adjunct instructors
  • Participates in developing and delivering faculty in-service
  • Assists Human Resources in assuring faculty are current with continuing education, licensure and certificate renewals
  • Assists the Dean in developing academic schedules in compliance with College standards and program accreditation/approval standards
  • Assists the Dean of Student Life and Wellness in progressive disciplinary action, addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Assists faculty in developing syllabi, resource materials, classroom activities and outcome assessments
  • Participates in curriculum revision
  • Maintains curriculum in a variety of media
  • Assures that lab equipment is properly ordered, maintained, and replaced
  • Participates in the selection of textbooks, software, and capital equipment
  • Participates in establishing entrance requirements in the student selection process
  • Facilitates advisory committee meetings
  • Monitors student retention, by instructor and/or term
  • Monitors graduate placement and pass rates on applicable licensure and registry examinations
  • Participates in accreditation and approval processes
  • Monitors and assures program compliance
  • Be available in person, by phone, or other methods of communication to respond to students in a timely manner as problems arise
  • Maintain inventory, equipment, and supply procurement and assure readiness of clinical laboratory and didactic classrooms
  • Serve as the coordinating member of the Advisory Committee for the program
  • Maintains current level of knowledge through participation in educational and in-service programs, workshops, and professional affiliations
  • Serves on college wide committees as appropriate
  • Maintains office hours
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs instructional duties for class and/or clinical as necessary.
  • Active participation in non-instructional campus responsibilities (considered service to the College), such as shared governance committee work, scholarship review committee or reader, appeals committee assignments, awards committee, participation in department, school, or campus wide initiatives, representing the college at recruitment and other community events, serving as an advisor for a registered student organization, etc.
  • Development of assessment of student learning and departmental programs.
  • A commitment to developing and following institutional and departmental policies or procedures regarding classroom/laboratory safety.
  • A commitment to student success and retention.
  • Candidates for this position must possess a thorough knowledge of the nursing field, a commitment to high academic standards, and excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
